Who was the first person in the kpop industry to capture your interest?
Lee Hongki (because of the kdrama You're Beautiful, which started me on this crazy path). Funny though because while I love the guy I'm not that into FT Island anymore.
Was Super Junior, by any chance, one of the first kpop bands you heard of?
Yeah, one of. I must have heard about SNSD first but I can't even remember. But yes, SuJu was one of the first. Kind of unavoidable tbh!
What was the last korean song you listened to?
BigBang // Love Song
Do you like a band better if someone in it acted in a show before?
I think unconsciously I'm more prone to stanning a band is in a variety show, because I like to learn about the people in the band. The humanist in me, I suppose. It just gives the band dimensionality if I've "met" them outside of their "idolness" and they've shown their lulziness.
Or does that make you more critical of that person?
Likewise, if I "meet" someone in a variety and I don't like their personality, then that's gonna affect my liking of the band. For instance, I watched the female idol special of Dream Team about a month ago and wasn't impressed with some of the girls there. Wasn't impressed with some of them because they weren't able to shake themselves from their idol-ness. OMG I can't show an uncool side of me. I just hate fakeness. Ergo, I won't like a band with members like that.
Do you like actors who try to sing as well?
Yes, sure. Jang Geun Suk comes to mind. He's pretty good!
Which company do the majority of your favorite bands come from?
SM. But right now I'm stanning BigBang and 2NE1 pretty hard so... YG, for the moment ;)
Would you ever stalk your favorite band?
Nope. I think I'm way past the age of screeching amidst a mob of cray-cray fangirls. Not that I ever was a cray-cray.
When do you get extremely fangirly?
News.
Do your biases change frequently, or do you stay loyal?
Stay loyal. OT but I've been a Hanson fan since 1998 and while I'm not as fangirly as I used to be, I still love and respect them and their music to bits. I don't think my "good practices" will change any time soon.
Why do you think some bands always have scandals, while others remain scandal free?
Fabrication? In this industry any publicity is good publicity, as they say.
Are your kpop interests easily influenced by others?
No, not really. I might follow a recommendation but, again, I'm past the age of blind influence.
Do you like songs from a band, but not the band itself?
Not really. I might not love all the members but I tend to get swayed by character.
Any idol you think is extremely shallow?
A lot of girl group members. I don't know if it's their company or just their personality but they'll just do anything to look good in front of the camera, to the point where they make cringeworthy farces of themselves and look like boring robots.
Any idol you wish the press would report more on?
Mmm I dunno.
When was the last time you discovered a new band?
Uhhh... I think my most recent was 2NE1? I suppose... last month? (I'm a recent kpop fangirl btw, gimme a break I know they're not new)
Do you prefer bands or solo artistes?
I tend to go for bands.
Which is your favorite variety show out of the three - Star King, Strong Heart or Star Golden Bell?
Strong Heart. Isn't SGB over? I like what I've seen of it but jaayyyyysus talent shows at the beginning were a bore weren't they? Isn't it enough to see their choreographies on music shows? That's the kind of publicity that's useless imo, when they do choreography talent shows on variety shows... I think that's why Family Outing 2 tanked, btw. The first season was less about talent shows and more about the "family" feel.
Do you watch Korean shows on TV (e.g. KBS World)?
Uh. I don't even have cable or satellite, lol (all that might change in August, since TV here will get digitalised)
If you could meet one idol, who would it be?
Hm, good question. I'm stanning hard for BigBang's TOP right now and I think it'd be interesting to spend a day with him because he's such a random dork and not quite as cold and emotionless as his stage persona would seem, but... I think Park Bom (2NE1) would be awesome.
Yes, I do love the random dorks ♥
What do you feel about idols throwing away their fan letters?
Oh well. Can't expect them to read and collect all 100,000 of them do ya? That's why I've never sent anything to my idols.
Do you think that it’s an idol’s duty to make their fans happy?
You mean fan service like showing skin and stuff? Eh, no, it's not their duty. It's wrong if they feel forced :S Like, say, SNSD. Knowing Seohyun, I'm not sure if she's all that comfortable about showing leg and all during their perfs. You can see in practice videos she wears loose joggings and t-shirts... But, you know, returning to the original subject, it's just fine if they have fun doing fan service :)
Where do you get the latest updates on kpop from?
omonatheydidnt.livejournal.com, the ohnotheydidnt of kpop. I'm not at the point where I watch it on my flist but even if I did at least my flist wouldn't explode like it would if I followed ohnotheydidnt. THAT shit is insane, man.
Who is your current bias?
TOP and Park Bom. Preferrably together XD (#springtempo!!)
Do you like multiple bands or one band only?
Multiple.
Do you like watching Music Bank?
Nah.
Which idol do you think would make a good guest on a variety show?
Leeteuk, Eunhyuk, Daesung, TOP, Park Bom (she's uber shy but if she let loose...), Yesung, Kyuhyun, Onew, Lee Joon... Must be others but I'm drawing a blank.
How did you get to know about your first kpop group that you loved?
Through the drama You're Beautiful. I wandered through youtube, followed the recs in the sidebar, and the rest is history. So, first off was FT Island.
What was the first clip (not MV) that you watched from them?
Bad Woman.
Any memorable kpop experiences you had with your friends?
Heh. No.
Has any korean band/artiste ever visited your country?
I... don't think so? Maybe Super Junior in Vancouver, I dunno. But that's across the country anyway.
Oh, wait, I know BoA was (is?) in Toronto yesterday but I don't even know if that was part of a tour or what.
Did you manage to see them live?
No.
Would you rather fly to Korea to meet your favorite band or have them fly to your country?
Both.
Do you prefer bands that sing and dance or just sing and play instruments?
I grew up on the Beatles among others so I really, truly respect and love love love actual bands (as in musicians) such as FT Island and CNBLUE (are there even others in the idol scene?) But I also danced (ballet, hip-hop) for 13 years so I also love love love singing/dancing groups with killer music.
Do you admire guys who rap in Korean?
Yes. I've actually come to really like Korean rap since it's less about sex and boobs and millions and more about feelings and storytelling. And fun. JFC, I love GD&TOP's
High High and I'll forever lol at TOP's
Turn It Up (monkey! I can't even, ahahaha this doooork)
Which band do you regret not getting into earlier?
Super Junior!
If you could meet one band backstage, who would it be?
Honestly, I don't know. Maybe CN Blue, BigBang and 2NE1 if I could. And hey, Super Junior-M since Henry's a Canuck!
Do you daydream about korean stars all the time?
Hmm not so much, although I've been toying with a fanfic idea lately.
Have you ever dreamt about them?
Not that I can remember.
In those dreams, were you speaking Korean or were they speaking your native language?
N/A. But I suppose if I did they'd speak Engrish :P
Are you anywhere near as tall as your bias?
Well I'm 5'7" so I'm probably average?
What makes you love your favorite band?
Their personalities and their music (and dedication thereof).
Is there anything you hate?
Fakes.
Do you feel guilty if you stop liking your first favorite band?
That did happen. I still respect FT Island but tastes naturally change over time. I mean, I feel sad that I left Hanson fandom at first but there's always something else... For me after Hanson it was Harry Potter!
Have you ever heard a Korean song you liked on the radio? What was your reaction?
You know, the weird thing is I'm PRETTY DAMN SURE I heard Super Junior's Miracle years ago. Can't remember when, can't remember where, but I'm positive! Probably not on the radio though.
And lastly, out of your favorite band, who would you marry, date, have as a best friend, and as a brother?
I'll take BigBang since they're my current bias.
Marry: TOP (everyone sees him as this cold expressionless guy but he is such a squishable dork and GOD his voice. And he's a lovely softie, too. PLUS, he's my age albeit a couple months younger *cough*. So I don't have to feel like a cradle-robbing noona AHAHA)
Date: Maybe Taeyang? (IDK IDK I just don't see him dating like anyone, lol)
Best friend: Seungri or GD
Brother: Daesung (I just wanna hug him he's so freaking underappreciated my beautiful beautiful angel :(
In other news, PERIOD GET YA DAMN GROOVE ON. 'Cause I don't relish late periods, and it's been nearly a week :'(
