Well I didn't have to call the government for explanations; they sent me a letter instead with the full details of what the hell's going on. Here's the thing: because my job gave me a severance pay after laying me off, the government isn't giving me an unemployment cheque for the first two weeks *shrug* Oh well.

Menstrual cup. Medical grade silicone, you just slide it in, it collects the blood, you can leave it in all day, no TSS scare, reusable, can last up to 10+ years, and think of the money you could be saving and all the tampons/pads you wouldn't polluting the earth with...

Sorry for the PSA, but it's definitely worth it :D

I had a pretty bad skin scare two years ago 'round my lady parts (thought I had something horrible when it turned out to just be a bad rash) when I decided to go look for something that wouldn't give me a rash. I hate tampons so that was out of the question. Trudged through vaginapagina to look for alternatives, and was redirected to menstrual_cups where all my questions were answered and decided to give it a go. I haven't gone back to disposables since.

Mm not it's a cup, so you fold it to slide it in, then it unfolds and just collects the blood straight from the cervix.

In some ways it's kind of like a tampon, although it slides in much more easily (silicone). You obviously have to be comfortable with your lady parts, and touching blood (when you take it out...) but I've been at it for a year or so and I'm completely okay with it now. Plus it's kind of fun, being able to measure exactly how little one actually bleeds. Pads and tampons really make it seem like it's a war zone in there, but I don't gush as much as I thought.

/end gross gore talk
