Awwwww I love this chapter. The goodbye to Rose was absolutely heartbreaking, on both sides. I have tears in my eyes just thinking about it.

This was one of the most heartwrenching for me: I want to stay here with you. I can’t let lo-“ he paused, holding himself back as he always did, and hating himself for it. This was his last chance, and he still couldn’t summon up the courage to say it out loud. It's so very him to not be able to say the words. and I love that he kisses her, although the kiss is bittersweet, and again, heartbreaking. He could feel her tremble against him, could taste the salt of her tears, and knew the exact moment she realized that he was kissing her goodbye. He gently pulled away and looked into her eyes. “Don’t forget me,” he whispered. *choke* okay, now my heart is in pieces. *hugs both of them tightly.*

His own purpose lay beyond that mirror, but it was gone. Awwwww I love that even though he does love Reinette, it's obviously Rose who holds his heart ( ... )

I admit to being immodest here, but I think getting into a character's head is my best skill. Though, I must say that fight scenes are my absolute WORST skill! :D So, there, I balance it out. ;)

And yeah, I think for the rest of the Doctor's life, Rose will be his greatest love, even over River. River will probably be a longer relationship, maybe even the more "comfortable" one, but his relationship with Rose will be the most important, even though he has to move on and let her go. Rose is the one that healed him after the Time War, and who spent two years with him being more loyal than he could have ever hoped for, even at the risk of her own life. Hell, she broke through walls between universes for him. I'm not sure if River would do that. I think she's too pragmatic, and would have just moved on....but not Rose. :)

We're all entitled to a little immodesty now and then. You certainly did a good job getting into the minds of the characters in this story! :) And Fight scenes are dreadful to write - too much happening. I avoid them - I prefer the romance anyway.

I agree that Rose is his greatest love. She came into his life at a time when he was desperately lonely and horribly broken and she healed him in more ways than one. I think if they had had more time together it would have been more comfortable and that if they'd both had the choice she really would have stayed with him forever. But with the way circumstances are, that's not possible. Not now anyway. I like to think though, that one way they will find their way back to each other. Nothing is impossible.

Well, maybe. I'm not so sure, now that he's given Rose a version of himself that can actually spend the rest of his life with her. I think, in his usually broken way of looking at love, that he probably thinks she deserves a life with that version of him and deserves a better life than what he can give.
