The thought struck me that if you were going to make a blockbuster movie trilogy of the Silmarillion, Maedhros would make a good protagonist or POV character. He's the one non-Ainu who's involved in nearly all the major events of the First Age - often on the 'wrong' side despite him starting out as a decent guy morally speaking, which makes for a

Actually though, I think the Silmarils themselves would be the movies' protagonists. Film One would be about Fëanor making them and Morgoth stealing them; Film Two would have as its centrepiece the quest of Beren and Lúthien; and Film Three would be about Eärendil sailing West with the Silmaril to get help.
But Maedhros would at least be involved in all of these events, even if it's only him shouting at Celegorm and Curufin and telling them they're idiots for antagonising Doriath and Nargothrond (and getting on Lúthien's bad side) when he's trying to organise an alliance...

Act Two would be Eärendil growing up in the Havens of Sirion, the Sons of Fëanor attacking, and Elwing bringing him the Silmaril. Act Three would be the War of Wrath and the grand climax of the trilogy, and Maedhros's death.
The Children of Húrin wouldn't be in my movie trilogy. It would be a separate arthouse indie movie for people who like tales of bleak depression and suicide. I think it would be popular in Finland. ;)

If they ever made a movie of The Silmarillion, I figure Eärendil would be the protagonist (at least of the latter part). If only because his aerial battle against Ancalagon would be such an awesome cinematic spectacle.

Each of the three movies in my Silm trilogy would feature a battle with a giant CGI monster. :) Ungoliant in #1, Carcaroth in #2 and Ancalagon in #3.

The sex might be a problem, though there'd still be some of that, Feanor and Nerdanel managed seven sons after all...
