AN: Unbeta'd. Slightly crackish, slightly fluffish o:! sunrisecandy/stardustlock wanted a prompt. There was a 100 yen coin on my desk, so I flipped it to get a pairing, then decided to be unoriginal and make 100 yen the prompt. Then I started getting ideas. This may well be the first of many 100 yen fics, since I've decided to take the '100 yen challenge'. (Read: everytime I want to write, but don't know what to write, I'll write something with the prompt 100 yen.)

“Nino-”
“DIE, BASTARD, DIE!”

Ohno sighed. That was the fifth time in the past half hour that Nino had cut him off with various violent shouts at the television screen; the other eight times, Nino had just ignored him. From what Ohno understood, Nino had made it to the sixth boss, and was currently beating the crap out of it.

“Nino.” He tried again “Nino, are you listening to me?”
A triumphant smile spread across Nino’s face as the boss fell down, presumably dead, but he showed no sign of hearing Ohno’s question.

Ohno sighed again as the screen cut to a scene, Nino watching avidly, not wanting to miss anything. Really, Ohno preferred the magic obsession. At least with magic Nino actually paid attention to him; Ohno was necessary for audience participation when it came to magic tricks.

“Nino.” The scene had finished, so Ohno decided to try his luck again as Nino landed in the next world. Finally, Nino paused the game, put the controller down, and turned to look at him; the expression on his face hinted that he hadn’t even noticed Ohno’s presence until that very moment. After a moment of thought - spent staring at Ohno very seriously - Nino reached into his pocket and pressed something into Ohno’s hand. He then turned back to the screen, picked up the controller and continued his game, leaving Ohno blinking at him in confusion.

Ohno looked down at his hand, fingers clenched around whatever it was that Nino had put in his hand. He looked back at Nino, then the screen; it didn’t seem like the other was going to start paying attention to him again any time soon, so he carefully opened his hand to see what the other had given him.

100 yen. That was what Nino had given him. A 100 yen coin.
“100 yen?”
“Go and buy yourself something nice.” Nino didn’t look away from the screen as he spoke; it took Ohno a moment to realise that Nino was speaking to him, not the game.

Ohno looked down at the coin, holding it between his index finger and thumb carefully, before pocketing it and standing up to make his way out of the room.

“I expect change!”

Ohno stopped in the doorway turned to look at Nino again as he heard the shout. He gave a small nod and then left the room, wondering what exactly he could buy with 100 yen, and still be able to give Nino change.

After a short walk he found himself in the convenience store, staring at the 100 yen coin again. He sighed and looked around the shop, pausing when he reached the sandwiches. He glanced at the coin, then back at the food and made the mental decision to go for it, change be damned.

He took a deep breath in preparation when he reached the counter, then slowly put the sandwich down on the counter for the worker at the cashier to scan it. The price flashed up on the small screen - a price that was most definitely higher than 100 yen. Ohno took another deep breath and handed over the 100 yen coin, along with another few coins of his own to make up the extra.

Ten minutes later Ohno was standing in the doorway to his and Nino’s living room again, the plastic bag containing his sandwich grasped tightly in one hand; the other hand was clenching a 1000 yen note. He slowly made his way over to the sofa and sat down next to Nino, not saying anything.

Nino was no longer playing the game - Ohno could only assume that he’d managed to finish it, since there was no way Nino would stop just so he could stare at Ohno, like he was currently doing. A few moments of staring passed before Nino held out his hand.
“Change.”

Ohno nodded and shakily lifted his hand to put the 1000 yen note on Nino’s palm. Nino raised an eyebrow.

“You do realise that this is more than I gave you in the first place?”
Ohno nodded again, glancing down at the note, then back at Nino.
“I added interest.”
