Movie day!

Feb 15, 2015 23:23

I hardly ever see movies in the theater; they're noisy and I can't draw while watching, and in general a dvd at home is more my speed. But this means a theater movie is a treat! Today I went with some friends to see Jupiter Ascending, which caught my inner Sailormoon fan's eye with the "normal girl becomes a space princess" theme. What caught my ( Read more... )

Oh, I wish you would. As much as I enjoyed the visuals, the costumes, the space scenes and the action, every time someone spoke I wished that the movie were in some other language, with no subtitles. Oy, the dialogue was painful. I actually loved the fight scenes and the chase scenes, because they were a much needed respite from the crappy lines and the utterly insipid characters. I kept wishing the movie was about the transport crew, or the bounty hunters, or Stinger...anyone but the actual main characters.

So yeah...I'd read it if you wrote it. :)

I liked Stinger, he seemed cool and had a nice accent. And he has a House of Bees, which was just creepy and awesome. Though I don't think there's actually a reason he has a House of Bees other than to be a royalty-detecting plot point and look atmospheric, I mean it can't be practical to have a House of Bees. You'd get honey dripping out of the walls. Bears would come and lick your house ( ... )

A novelization would at least tell me the plot the director was trying for. The fact that there isn't one suggests to me that somebody in production knew what a hot mess that script was-- novelizations are usually much worse than the movie and in this case the writing would be so bad it might collapse into a singularity of terrible prose. This made me laugh so hard, I shot coffee out my nose ( ... )

Oh how I wish you would write a novelization. The first thing I did after getting home post-movie was search Amazon for what I thought would be an inevitable novelization project. Sad face me, now I don't have any hope of knowing most of the characters names, let alone hoping for an infodump-laden backstory paragraph on the magical space royalty empire.

But guh, the visuals were absolutely stunning. Though oddly reminiscent of Star Wars Ep. One.

But yeah, even my love of Channing Tatum and cool bee-man Sean Bean couldn't save the incoherent story.

Wow, this writing project idea has gotten so much enthusiasm from my friends! And I really want to do it. this low-quality movie has seized my mind with thoughts of improving it! The problem is, I really can't work from one viewing, so it's either wait for a dvd or become one of those people who pirates movies while they're still in the theater, which is a little more piratical than I like to be. Bleh. Maybe I'll wait and see if i still want to do it after the dvd appears.

I can't even remember all the major characters' names after one viewing, so I can't imagine trying to write an entire novelization off of one! I think waiting for the dvd is a good move - if you're still interested in it by then (which I hope you are!), having a copy of the movie will be very helpful for writing! :)

I didn't know Cane's name during the movie. 9_9 Cane for canine, i guess, since he's half wolf? A difficult naming scheme, naming animal people after their species, especially if you want to have animal-people armies, which I do want. Packs of wolf bodyguards for the royals. So Cane is visibly a member of a species instead of just randomly there. And he needs a new name because his name is too bland. Jupiter needs a new name because hers is too clunky. Happily, the planet Jupiter has many moons with melodious names so we can just choose a favorite! Oooh, possibilities! I'm rather leaning towards Yuri short for Europa. Classy, yet Japanese, since this movie bears more than a passing resemblance to an anime plot. It would be Leda, but Veijukka has a Leda, can't poach your friends' character names!

This comment, while directed at you, is also sort of because I feel like doing Jupiter comments when avoiding homework. =) Aaarg, homework.
