Which is great.

Except that I really, really want to put some of my writing up. I created this website because I wanted a community where I could share my art. But I'm not ( Read more... )

I think that any real artist cares deeply about her work, to the point where she might conflate the work with herself. For somebody to reject that art, is to feel personally rejected.

It's a perfectly reasonable way to feel, I'd think.

Yes... I think it's more than just that though.

I'v been thinking about it and I think there is a difference btw some random reader not linking/insulting your work & someone you consider to be a part of your "art community" doing the same.

I think the art community is incredibly important... humm. For me, I think that's what the difference is. Reader doesn't like it, OK. Community doesn't like your work... it feels like being kicked out of the community, or at least the community support system.

And I think every artist needs a community, regardless of their medium.

Community is absolutely essential, yes.

If other artists in my community, like my critique partners, told me they didn't think my work was up to snuff, that would hurt because I respect them and their opinions, and I trust them. Which is why I'm giving them my work to review in the first place.

But I don't think anyone can tell you that OTHERS won't like your work. Art is SO subjective. I can only speak for myself when critiquing someone's work. There have been plenty of instances where I thought something was amazing and someone else thought it was crap, or vice versa. If one person doesn't like my art, I can deal with that. But how can that person tell me that no one else will like it? How can that person even KNOW that? I don't think they can.
