The rain that fell around them was soft and cold. Neither of them seemed to notice and they didn’t bother to run for shelter. They let it run down their hair and down their necks. There was distance between them and when he reached to take her hand, she jerked it away.
“Bora yah…” JaeJoong muttered when she pulled away from him.
“Don’t touch me.” Her voice was almost a whimper. “Just don’t touch me…”
One couldn’t tell which droplets were tears and which were rain on her face as she looked at him, her eyes narrowed both from glaring at the older boy and trying to block out the rain. Her hands came up to cover her face and she trembled from trying hard not to sob.
“Why did you do this?” Bora’s voice was strained and slightly muffled behind her hands. “Why did you do this to me? What did I do wrong?”
JaeJoong had no answer. He couldn’t muster a reason that would even satisfy him, much less the girl in front of him. “I don’t know Bora yah…I don’t know…” His throat constricted faintly. He wanted to cry, sob with her and ask her forgiveness.
He once more reached out to touch her. He didn’t care if she fought against him, he wanted to hold her. He needed to hold her, even if this was the last time that he’d get the chance to do so. JaeJoong held her tightly as she struggled to get away from him.
“Let me go!” She screamed at him, having every right to do so. “I told you not to touch me! Let go!” Bora struggled, she screamed, she hit at him but he held her regardless.
“Bora yah…stop. Stop! I’m sorry.” JaeJoong’s arms tight around her waist, his face burying into her shoulder. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry.” He cried into her shoulder, his hands curling into fists behind her back. “I love you.”
She shook her head, her body trembling and wracked with sobs as she gave up the strength to fight him. “How could you betray me? You promised to be faithful…you fucking promised. He got you…he finally got you.”
JaeJoong’s knees gave out on him and he fell to the ground, bringing the girl with him. He held her close, rocking her back and forth. “I know. I lied to you. I betrayed you. I’m sorry. I can’t say it enough.”
“Once upon a time…JaeJoong…once upon a time.” She sobbed softly against him, hands curled into fists around his shirt.
She knew this was it. He knew it as well. JaeJoong had betrayed her in a way that had hurt the deepest. Bora realized now that to believe him was a childish fantasy. A fairytale gone awry and her Prince Charming was now the villain.
