I like this. It reminds me very much of Neil Gaiman (an idol of mine), particularly 'Stardust.' Are you still planning on sending something my way to be critiqued?
It is very romantic, a tale of a young woman's liberation from patriarchal society into something more magickal and, for her, worthwhile. Even the slight chill of comparative poverty fails to bother her compared to the exhiliration of the dance. She can believe in what she enjoys, anybody can do that, and it illustrates the problem with industrialised, wealth-driven, power-greedy patriarchy: it is devoid of pleasure.

I was trying to achieve a fairy story feel with this :-)
