What can I say about Israel? Israel is beautiful, but its beauty is found only partly in the place itself, the landscape of mountains and deserts and seas. Mostly, its beauty is in its stories, because even though the country's seen war, war broken only by small breaths of peace, people flourish there with faith in the past grace of God and hope ( Read more... )

Heehee, thanks. Your new scheme inspired me to spiff up mine (which I'd been annoyed with for a while). The banner is a detail of a statue of St. Peter that I took at the same place as the flowers. (Any excuse to show off my israel photos!!! :-))

I'm glad you're enjoying yourself. I'm further interested to hear about the view from Israel's streets while Sharon is close to death and basically having no Prime Minister.

Israeli politics is SOOO crazy.

Yeah, i'll second that.

I talked to my guide about Sharon--he says most are really anxious because Sharon was such a leader for peace and they want whoever follows him to continue along the same lines. Also, they're afraid that terrorists will see this as a moment of "weakness" and try to take advantage of things. I kind of got lost when he started rattling off the strengths and weaknesses of all the possible candidates who might be okay following Sharon, but in general he was hoping that it would be someone from the new party Sharon started.

But unfortunately, all that happened so close to when we were leaving, I didn't have the chance to get much of a second opinion--the people I talked to on the plane were all Americans. And, as we all know, Americans just don't count. ;-)
