CHARACTER
✧ NAME: Flynn Rider/Eugene Fitzherbert
✧ SERIES: Tangled
✧ HISTORY: Flynn’s childhood isn’t elaborated on much in canon. What is known is that he was orphaned at probably a fairly young age. In the orphanage, Eugene Fitzherbert discovered a book called “The Tales of Flynnagin Rider”, which he would often read to the younger orphans. Inspired by the stories of a man with everything, Eugene created a new identity for himself based on these tales, even renaming himself Flynn Rider.
There‘s no canon for what happened between then and a day when Flynn - then aged twenty-three - stole the lost princess' crown, and went on to take the crown from his partners, the Stabbington brothers. While on the run from the guards and the brothers, he found a tower, climbed it, and... Was smacked on the head with a frying pan. Turned out one Rapunzel lived in that tower, and she was not happy about being found. She even took Flynn’s satchel - which held the crown - and hid it on him. After being tied up by Rapunzel‘s hair and asked a few questions, Flynn inadvertently made two things clear: One, he knew nothing of Rapunzel‘s magical, healing hair. Two, he could take her to see the floating lanterns she‘d always dreamed about. Rapunzel offered him his satchel in return for work as a guide, and they set off, Flynn trying to get Rapunzel to back out of the deal at every opportunity/ This eventually led them to a pub where Rapunzel saved Flynn from some thugs by whacking their leader over the head with a piece of wood, and then inspiring a song and dance number about dreams. Forced to sing at sword point, Flynn explained that his dream was to have rich and solitary life.
At the pub, the guards caught up to Flynn, with his former partners in tow, and a chase started up, eventually leaving our Rapunzel and Flynn trapped in a cave quickly filling with water. Rapunzel revealed half of the truth about her hair - that it glows when she sings her special song - after Flynn revealed his name to be Eugene Fitzherbert. (He will be called Flynn for the remainder of this history to avoid confusion.). She realized that her hair could help them see through the cave, and so one Rapunzel and one very freaked-out Flynn made it out alive.
That night, Rapunzel healed Flynn’s hand, thus revealing the whole truth about her hair, and Flynn offered up more information on his own history - that he was an orphan and where he got his fake name. With this tender moment of honest on top of everything they‘d gone through so far, the two began to fall for each other. Meanwhile, Gothel had tracked Rapunzel down, and told Rapunzel Flynn was only interested in getting the crown back, not her, which Rapunzel partially believed. Gothel gave her the satchel to give to Flynn, to see where his loyalties really lie, but Rapunzel did not return it yet. (Meanwhile, Gothel had found the Stabbington brothers, told them she had the crown, about Rapunzel‘s hair, and how they could get revenge on Flynn Rider -- Yes, a plan was forming.).
The next day, the team - now joined by the Captain of the Guard's horse, who Rapunzel had won over - made their way to the kingdom, and a day of much merriment ensues. Rapunzel and Flynn fell more in love. He took her to see the lanterns, they each realized how much the other has shown them and changed them, and by this point, Flynn had realized that he had a new dream-- Rapunzel. Rapunzel gave Flynn back his satchel, and Flynn noticed the Stabbington brothers nearby. He briefly (in theory, at least) left Rapunzel to return the crown, wanting nothing more to do with the whole ordeal. Well, this was all part of Gothel's plan, and the brothers didn't want the crown anymore - They wanted Rapunzel. They tied Flynn up to a boat, with the crown, and sent him towards the kingdom, then found Rapunzel told her Flynn traded her for the crown. Gothel knocked them out - and apparently they were captured by the Royal Guard later - and took Rapunzel home, under the act of a sympathetic mother who had been right all along.
Flynn, meanwhile, was arrested, and to be hanged for his crimes. At the same time, Rapunzel was realizing that she was the lost princess of Corona and standing up to Gothel, who wasn’t really her mother at all, but that’s Rapunzel’s story. Back to Flynn…
Maximus, the horse mentioned earlier, knew something was amiss when Flynn apparently traded Rapunzel for the crown, and got the thugs from the Snuggly Duckling to come and save the theif. Before he escaped, though, Flynn saw the Stabbington brothers, and was able to fight off the guards long enough to be told that “the old lady” was the one who told them about Rapunzel. He connected this to Rapunzel’s mother, and -- with the thugs’ help -- rode off on Maximus to save the girl he loved and realized must be in danger. He reached the tower, Rapunzel let down her hair, and all seemed well for a moment… But it wasn’t. Gothel was just luring Flynn up, and once he got to the tower window, she stabbed him. The wound was fatal… In theory. Rapunzel told Gothel that she would keep fighting to escape her for her entire life, unless she let Rapunzel heal Flynn. Gothel agreed to this, but Flynn couldn’t stand the idea of Rapunzel having to give up her freedom. He cut her hair, which she had told him caused it to lose its power and turn brown, so that she couldn’t heal him and thus couldn’t be held to her end of the deal. This brought Gothel, as without the magic in Rapunzel’s hair she became her real age… And she had been using that flower’s magic for hundreds of years before Rapunzel was even born.
Flynn lay dying, and Rapunzel - despite not having magic anymore - sang the healing incantation in one last desperate attempt to save him. She cries on Flynn… And it would seem a bit of magic remained, for the tear brings Flynn back to life. The two had a tearfully joyous reunion, and then headed for the palace so Rapunzel can take her rightful place as royalty.
The reunion with her family was a very happy one, and the King and Queen instantly accepted Flynn into the family as well. Rapunzel went on to become a beloved ruler of Corona, and she and a reformed Flynn eventually were married.
✧ TIMELINE: Post-epilogue, a few months after having married Rapunzel.
✧ PERSONALITY: Flynn and Eugene are kind of two different personas that blended together over Flynn’s adventure with Rapunzel. With the fact that he ends up being a solid combination of all the traits shown in each persona, let’s take them one at a time…
First, there is Flynn Rider. Flynn is incredibly confident to the point of being cocky. He rarely doubts himself, and if he does, he keeps it to himself. He can be a bit smart-mouthed at times and is in general a playful guy. While he‘s not a party animal, it is clear Flynn is the type of person who enjoys a good time. He’s also quite charming, but… Sometimes not when he’s trying to be. His “smolder” leaves Rapunzel far from impressed. Flynn isn’t the type to share his history or get too close to people, and this is an aspect of him that is lost pretty much entirely thanks to Rapunzel -- As is his ‘no singing’ policy.
Then we have Eugene Fitzherbert, who is not only willing to get close to people and share a certain amount of history, but even has a romantic side. Eugene cares for Rapunzel more than anything, and is quite willing to put her first in every way. Also, he never had a family of his own, and secretly wants one -- So being accepted by Rapunzel‘s parents means a lot to him. He is kind-hearted, friendly, and he does sing.
✧ ABILITIES/POWERS: Flynn has no otherworldly abilities like Rapunzel does, but he is quite athletically gifted. This is mainly shown as he passes through many obstacles while trying to escape being captured, and later when he fights of the guards to get information from the Stabbington brothers.

SAMPLES
✧ FIRST PERSON:
Okay, I’ve been here for two days now and I have to say… I think half of you are crazy. I’m sorry, but it’s the truth. How am I stuck in my own head or whatever if I don’t even know most of you people? Nope, this is some weird… Spell or something. Really, I could not dream up some of you people if I tried. I don’t know if someone but a curse on Corona, or just me, but I’m guessing it’s the second one because… Well. It has to be. I mean, Blondie’s mad at me, and I would never do anything to hurt her.
…Anyway, right, I guess someone’s trying to mess with me. Well, hey, I’m game. I can always handle a challenge. After all, I’m the Flynn Rider.
✧ THIRD PERSON:
Flynn Rider -- Or rather, in this case, Eugene Fitzherbert -- had been a king before coming to Promenade. But that been very, very briefly, and he hadn't been invited to the gatherings of any other royalty. And the celebrations Rapunzel's parents -- Or Rapunzel and himself, once or twice -- had held in Corona were very free-spirited and not, he believed, typical of royal parties.
So he had admittedly been a bit uncomfortable upon receiving his invitation. Especially since when he'd first come to this place he'd received a note warning him about the King and Queen. Still... If they were dangerous, why upset them? Besides, he wasn’t convinced he needed to believe that mysterious note. If someone wanted him to take something seriously, they were better off telling him without the shield of anonymity. There was something about not knowing exactly who sent that note that made him hesitant to trust it. So there was another reason to go-- Maybe the King and Queen were perfectly nice and the poor couple had somebody going about spoiling there name. Or something.
And, okay, yeah, it was pretty cool that the royal family had invited him.
...Except. It would seem he was far from the only random citizen who'd been invited. From the moment he entered the castle he saw a ton of familiar faces. But any disappointment over apparently not being all that special was overshadowed by the thought that Rapunzel might be there.
At the moment, Eugene -- dressed in his best clothing from back home, the outfit he'd arrived in, freshly cleaned -- was in the royal gardens. It was a bit quieter out there than inside, and while he liked a good bit of action, the royal party type of 'action' -- chitter-chatter that had no real meaning -- was not his style.
So exploring the gardens would have to do.
