It is officially Fall now, and I will tell you why. Not only did i get "an extra hour of sleep last night" (not true, i got an extra hour of awake, which i used to watch an episode of Lost), but the leaves are starting to be seriously red around here. What did they mean by "clown music?" I could describe the first track of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah as clown music, but I don't see how Sufjan could be described as such. I used to think he didn't sound anything like Elliot Smith, but after listening to more Elliot Smith, I see why people make that comparison now. Simon and Garfunkle is a bit of a stretch, though. I guess some of Sufjan's stuff wouldn't be out of place in a Mike Nichols film.

Well i think by clown music, the person meant not music that clowns have playing while they do things at the circus, but music which brought clowns to mind. It mentally imaged a picture of clowns. I have heard it from a couple of other people before as well.
Maybe i still haven't heard enough Elliott Smith, because i still don't really hear that one much at all. And while i don't think the simon and garfunkle comparison is very strong, I do hear that a bit. But really, Sufjan is Sufjan, and i am sure in a while I will be comparing other people to him, but right now I don't really have a strong comparison for him to anyone else.
Actually, that is not entirely true. Some of Bruce Cockburn's still is, for me, reminiscent uf Sufjan. But since Bruce Cockburn was around 25 years prior to Sufjan, I suppose the accurate comparison goes in the opposite direction. Even that, though, is primarily lyrical.
