Cause I wanna do my part.

Problems with race relations continue to this day.  I've heard many cries to "end racism" (although 99% of the people saying this really mean "white people stop being racist."  There is no mention of other races needing to end racism.  And if everyone is not on board, it's doomed to fail.) but I've heard little to no practical, doable means to do ( Read more... )

First of all... thanks for writing about your thoughts. It's great to hear from you.

Ok... how about Idiot? Simpleton? Dweeb/Wonk? Jerk? Stupid? Are any of these associated with a particular race?

As for the origins, I would go back to judeaism ... or even earlier. It was the jews who believed that all their neighbors were morally inferior to them.. and SAID SO in a book. And for all we know, every tribe/culture in history has felt superior. It may just be genetic.

So here's my answer to your opening question.
You want to make a huge step towards ending racism... for yourself? Choose the people group you have the greatest antagonism with... and then start dating their women... exclusively.

have fun.

Yes, the Jews and every tribe felt themselves superior, but it wasn't RACIAL until the Age of Exploration. The Thracians hated the Spartans, but they were the same race. The Jews felt morally superior but they didn't write "and also because their skin is a different color."

Even during the Crusades, it was about religion, not race. After all, the Emperor of Constantinople (who was as powerful, if not more, than the pope) was of Middle Eastern ancestry. No one had a problem with that. Europeans traded with middle easterners, Africans, and the East regardless of RACE. Because it made sense.

So, yeah, intolerance goes back to the first caveman to bonk his friend on the head, but skin color didn't enter the picture till much much later.

You are making the mistake of conflating "racism" defined as the systemic and systematic privleging of one group of people with a specific skin color or membership in a defined racial group with "prejudice" which is a personal dislike or hatred of another based on some characteristic of that person, either chosen or innate ( ... )
