So, I was thinking. (Oh noes) Yeah, anyway. Our parents or maybe even grandparents have songs like "Beyond the Sea" and "Hotel California,", or maybe some of the younger ones have "Under Pressure." Regardless, they all have their respective classics that have continued to be fantastic songs even today. But what about us? Where are our classics from ( Read more... )

Good call on the Oasis. Train too, actually.

I'd add Green Day's "Good Riddance" just because it's always played for graduation videos, etc. Also "A Long December" by Counting Crows and maybe even "The Space Between" by Dave Matthews Band. The last one I've heard over and over in the past decade, or ever since it came out.

Ooh, I didn't think of Green Day. I haven't heard "A Long December" but I'll get to "Space Between."

And I'd like to add that the two songs I think are most integral to this list are "Champagne Supernova" and "The Way."

Uh, you left out Smells Like Teen Spirit. I think that will always be around.

Unfinished Sympathy by Massive Attack pretty much defined 90s music in Britain. That's a really amazing song.

Everybody Hurts by R.E.M.?

Hyper-ballad by Bjork.

Frozen by Madonna. (Seriously, it's a good song, not like popy Madonna.)

I'm really thinking of rock songs I grew up with. Smells Like Teen Spirit I've been contemplating because it doesn't exactly have the sound as all the others do...but then again it is an undeniable classic. Unfinished Sympathy, Hyper-ballad, and Frozen? I'm thinking of classics I've heard of and grew up with. Everybody Hurts was early 90s, but I hadn't heard it until I got the Best of REM CD, but I think I'll add it just because I fucking love REM.

I think you'd know Frozen if you heard it. But yeah, it's really hard to think of songs that everyone knows that doesn't suck... cause the 90s had some sucky music.

Also, if we're talking '00s, I'd put Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt on there. Everyone knows that, too.

Yeah, but the 90s had some pretty fucking great music too.

"Smells like Teen Spirit" is definitely a classic, but when was it released? It seems before my time, anyway.
And let's see...
Oasis, definitely. Train, definitely. I agree with your list.
Oh, how bout Edwin McCain's "Could not ask for more?" I didn't like it much in the 90's because they played it so much, but it's good

Hmmm, haven't heard that one, or have it? Is it one of those "nameless popular band" songs? That's how "The Way" is with most people.

Yeah, you'd probably know it if you heard it. Another one of his is "I'll be." I didn't know specifically who they were by until earlier this year

I didn't have the song in my library, but I had it on my computer. It was in the folder of top 30 rock songs according to the X (back in the 107.7 days). I also have the live in the X lounge version.
