When I read this article describing "lime-green [laptops that] will be powered via wind-up crank" to be "distribute[d]...to children in developing countries", I laughed out loud. Sure, I thought, that's what children in developing nations really need. And a wind-up laptop...utterly preposterous!

But the scary thing is that it's actually true.

That's actually really awesome. I'd argue that if we could get all kids laptops like this, it would make students entering the workforce a lot more tech savvy. I'd totally be behind getting something like this into Ontario classrooms as well.

But seriously, what got me is that it can be wound with a crank. The only thing I've ever owned that I've needed to crank was a jack-in-the-box!

Sorry, with the frickin' dead battery in both laptop and camera at present, I think cranks are awesome also.
