Updates all around:
Work is the usual.
Kickball is going well, we won a great game last night, 8-3. I f'd up in the field and allowed 2 runs to score to tie it up at 3-all, but managed to whip the ball to third in time for Nicole to tag out the runner after he overran the bag. The next inning, Steve (who is new to our team this year) kicked a 3-run homer (our first of the year) to make it 6-3 and then David followed with a solo shot of his own to make it 7-3. Earlier in the game, I helped set the tone of aggressive baserunning with some heavily-complimented (so as not to pat my own back too much) tagging up. I kicked a single, the girl batting after me got a single, Kevin kicked a deep fly that I waitedwaitedwaited until the outfielder touched it and took off like a bandit for 3rd, then Alex followed with a shallow fly behind first that I was able to score on. Good game all around, now we're 3-2 on the season and if it ended today, would be the 6th seed in the playoffs (out of 8 teams). Next week we play the best team in the league and if we win, we're definitely in the playoffs. If we lose, we might back into them, but who wants that?
Health is not great at the moment, I've been feeling like I'm fighting off the sniffles (although today I feel fine so maybe it was just something small). However, starting last Friday, I had pains in my gut right below the sternum. It felt like gas but I wasn't passing any either way. Tried all my usual tricks: slept for 12 hours, had a mmmmmonster dump, took TUMS, drank lots of water, but it kept bugging me through til Monday. Went to the doctor on Tuesday, was diagnosed with gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining). So I have been advised to take the drinking easy for the next few weeks and have been put on prescription-strength Prilosec for 6 weeks. Alcohol is a stomach irritant, who knew?
Socially, been busy (although not in all phases of the game, unfortunately). Tuesday nights are now the regular trivia night (and we got smoked last week; previous times we came in 3rd, 2nd and 4th respectively, 6th this week). Thursday is kickball (although we have one regular season game left and then the postseason week, so it's almost done). David, Dan and I are talking flag football, but I think we're gonna have to wait til January (which might be for the best). We're also thinking about bowling (which is on Wednesday nights and thus would be kinda hard to do back-to-back with trivia).
Also doing fantasy football this year for the first time since '02. First week, I KILLED my opponent to the tune of 112-41. Feeling very good about my team. Barring injuries, I should roll these chumps without having to make any changes. And if I do have injuries, I have pretty good depth to fill-in or for tradebait.
Seahawks had a rough game last week, but like I keep telling people, they started off weak in Jacksonville last year too but the difference is that they lost last year. This year they pulled it out, so they're ahead of the game. Also Deion Branch!
Folks are on a month-long road trip, currently they are in Colorado (having had stops in Wyoming and Montana already). Grandma was put into assisted living about a month ago after she had a collapsed vertebrae (at least that's what I understand is what happened, I'm not sure what it's called, but they repaired it by cementing it back together).
Meaning to go to the gym but have had a hard time of it lately. I've packed on 6 or 7 pounds since I sprained my hamstring in July and it's all fat. I've been having trouble going to the gym after work (and it's right next to my work so I pretty much have to go right after I get off). Thinking seriously of switching to the gym by my house despite some personal issues with the place (given that they tried to file suit against both the Fremont Sunday Market and the Fremont Summer Solstice Parade, which is rigoddamndiculous). But it is a 5 minute walk and I've found a lot of times that I'm exhausted right after I get off work and suddenly have energy to burn when I get home. I dunno, we'll see. But I definitely need to get into shape, I was fucking WINDED last night during kickball. It was a shame.
And now I will stop typing.
