After reading p_cat's nostalgic post on '90s gothclub music, i found myself scratching my head yesterday, trying to work out what my own Olde Days soundtrack would be.  I couldn't even put a finger on an Olde Days that i could feel nostalgic about.  When i think about it, it seems that for most of my clubbing years, i actually loathed the bulk of ( Read more... )

When i think about it, it seems that for most of my clubbing years, i actually loathed the bulk of the music that was played at the clubs i went to.

I hear that, although, oddly, I actually listen to a lot of that music now. Hen-Pen's post actually sent me off on a weird alterna-verse YouTube search of my own where I listened to a lot Leather Strip for some reason.
Maybe I was just stubborn at the time, or maybe there's an embedded sense of nostalgia I am enjoying.

I have been going through my old MP3s, a lot of stuff from MP3.com that I haven't listened to in 10 years, and there's a lot of dross in there, and some stuff I loved at download now does nothing for me.

Ironically, it's only been in recent years, since the deathrock revival has caught on, that the sort of scene i spent most of my 20s and 30s longing for finally exists. Most of what I have heard has been dull or just awful. Or cookie-cutter '80s stuff. Any recommendations? I rediscovered Belisha in my MP3 collection the other day, and I think you recommended them to me ( ... )

Bob Marley? Sheesh. :)

But if Japanese music-stuff is your bag, the last Creatures LP was all Japanese drumming, from memory.

I'll listen to these songs. I recall this Clair Obscur song, but not the others.

I'm kinda late to comment on this one, but nevertheless I will.

That's what Goth looked like when I was deep into it:

Hope you 'd like these vids.

Now my daughter likes Justin Bieber, something went wrong in between these years!

Good stuff. I didn't discover New Model Army until the late '90s, along with various other bands of that ilk (though i'd long been looking for more examples of that middle ground between punk and goth). Some bands of that era which i had known, like Virgin Prunes and Theatre of Hate, i'd never really thought of as 'goth', having come aboard at a time when the term described acts like the Sisters of Mercy and the Mission, and was surprised to learn that the term was more or less coined for them ( ... )
