Restraint

I went and saw the new Jet Li movie, Unleashed, last night. Matt's right, they should have stuck with the European title, Danny the Dog.

The plot seemed kind of simple to me, but that fit with the theme - in a story of a man raised like a dog, playing with the idea of simple and complex is elevated from trick to art. The fights were gritty, and pretty edge-of-the seat - the analogy to an attack animal was carried through pretty thoroughly. Second win in two weeks for Yuen Wo Ping - the choreography here is totally different from what he and Sammo pulled off in Kung Fu Hustle.

On the whole, good film, interesting score by Massive Attack, some really exciting fight scenes.

As usual, Morgan Freeman turns in a fine performance; that dude is an actor's actor. Apparently it was his idea to make his character a blind guy, which I really think was key to having the movie work so well.

Thoughts the movie left me with - Redemption is always at hand. The ability to completely change one's life is available, sometimes even in the most random and mundane interactions.
