When opposing the Rudd Emissions Trading Scheme (which I am not here to praise), Tony Abbotts said that not only was he opposed because it was a 'big new tax' (despite the main argument for an ETS being that it is an alternative to a carbon tax, heaven forbid that we have any emissions reduction policy at all that emitters have to pay for), but

I get more of a we need a shit load of saving, lets cut anything and everything we don't even vaguely like in order to make the number we need. Rather than a direct gutting of climate change policy per se. Thought the result is the same and I don't think they'll be upset about it.
