Hello world. Sorry I've been away so long. Life events over the last year and half left me feeling more than normally reclusive. Dropping off the map for a (long) while has helped me to heal a lot, but now I need to reconnect with the world. If anyone's reading this... hi ( Read more... )

PoI has been erratic for brief periods but I'd say that on the whole it's getting better. The show was so much stronger after Carter was gone that viewers who refused to watch it again missed a lot. I liked her, but she was the expendable character.

Sometimes the need to move is clear even with no idea where to go. I had that problem but it sorted itself out in the end. Portland would be nice.

POI is a frustratingly erratic show. S1 was moody. S2 turned into a typical (and extremely boring IMO) CBS buddy police show. I'm glad Carter is gone. They wrote her into a corner and left her no where to actually go on the show. The entire 'HR' storyline bored me senseless. I wish they'd get rid of Fusco too, but I appreciate that he's a convenient plot device because they need quick, handwavy access to police information. If I saw one more minute of Finch moping over Grace (a character I actually liked), I was ready to bash in my tv. I actually stopped watching it for a while but started up again this season when they amped up Root's role in the show and added the Shaw character. There was a huge amount of fan bitching about both of those characters, but IMO the show needed both to grow the scope and give the writers more room to advance the story. Root adds a necessary cyberpunk element, and Shaw ties in to the 'relevant' side of the Machine and is a hook to that side of the POI world ( ... )

The writers knew from the start that Carter would be leaving the series so if they wrote her into a corner it was purposeful. I like Shaw. I must have missed the bitching. All I saw - and I avoid fandom on Tumblr except when I'm in the mood to be irked - were the complaints about the death of Carter, 'the only WoC in the show'. Erm, Shaw?

A lot of viewers seem oblivious that Shaw is also a WoC.

I think there was a lot of understandable sadness that a black female leading character was killed because it's still so difficult for minority women to get leading roles in Hollywood. The entertainment industry does have a bad track record for killing off their minority characters.

it';s good to see you post, I need to do so as well. Hadn't even known about the 2nd round of water damage discovery :(

The damage upstairs was from the two earthquakes we had here, not from water. Even so, my insurance company refuses to pay a cent for the repairs. Apparently my policy has a rider that excludes damage caused by 'earth movement of any kind or cause.' The windows all may need to be replaced as a result, too. I don't know yet. D:
