#13 Temperance
"When's the last time you even had a drink?" Geoff glances over at his coworker who is suspiciously eyeballing the now empty pint glass she's holding. Delia could have sworn that a minute ago it was filled with a blue colored liquid that tasted fantastic and was making her feel happy.
"I think I need another one," this is her professional opinion and in order to solve the problem she looks for their waitress.
"I dunno, rummy looks like you've had enough."
"No, no, fuck you that's why!"
It might be the last time Geoff suggest a drink after work.
#14 Charity
Charity is very important to Delia. Out of all the things she rejected from her father the pastor, charity is one things she holds close to her heart. She willingly gives her times and money to those less fortunate. She keeps her acts private it's no one's business but her own. It's not about promoting herself, but to ease the pain of others and her own guilt from her deceit from when she was younger.
Matthew twenty-five forty is important to her, "'Whatever you did for one of the least of these, you did for me.'"
#15 Diligence
The alarm goes off at six in the morning and brings her awake with a jolt. Every day is much the same, the same breakfast, the same trip to work by train, and the same position at her desk. She goes over rows and rows of numbers looking for oddities, things that don't add up. Her job is to prevent fraud, prevent deception and to make sure investors are properly informed before they invest. With all their diligence the SEC becomes more of an investigatory force after the fact.
Only after the crime has been committed.
#16 Patience
Subjecting your brain to surgery, chemotherapy and radiation tends to leave you a little tender. By the time it's all over, Delia has memory loss, decreased motor skill and just a general slowness. It is painfully embarrassing and frustrating for her. It takes the patience of her friend Chad to help her relearn all the things she forgot. Slowly she learns memory building exercises and plays games to build up her vocabulary once again. Things slowly come back to her as life continues on.
In return for his help, Delia lets him beat her at poker.
#17 Kindness
"Ask me that again and I'll hit you, I swear to fucking God." Lawrence has grown accustomed to Delia's outbursts as of late. Six weeks pregnant and she tends to go from steady to raging in a matter of seconds. There's nothing either one of them can really do except ride it out.
"How about some tea?" His voice is low, rumbling and kind despite the fact that she's downright nasty to him these days.
She nods finally and he fixes her the mint tea that calms her moods and nausea. Everything is going to be alright.
#18 Humility
After years of being in the spotlight next to her father the pastor Delia has become to revile any sort of acknowledgment for her achievements. Personal or professional. It's fear of turning into her father who's pride is as massive as his waistline. There is also the belief that no matter what she does she does not deserve the kind words or praise she gets for it.
Not like there is a lot of praise to be handed out by her bosses or the bosses above them. She does her job simply because it is her job.
