The TV Addict - Watching the new crap so you don't have to

Sep 26, 2012 23:25

It's been awhile since I posted my thoughts about Television. I thought with the new season kicking off on Monday now would be a good time to weigh in on some of this seasons new shows.

PartnersI love David Krumholtz. I watched every episode of Numbers (even wrote some fic) but even he can't save this show. The premise has potential but the ( Read more... )

I really hate shows that imply a woman can never be happy or truly fulfilled without a man to love.

I could not agree more. ::nodsnodsnods::

I'll be watching Last Resort tomorrow, but, so far, Revolution is the only new show I've watched. (Well, I lie. I watched the first few eps of Copper on BBCA.) I love the premise, but, like you, find the central premise something I think they'll have difficulty explaining, if they even really try, that is. No confidence in Abrams, on my part, alas. The show is riddled with logic problems, and I'm already sick of sword fights, but at least the second ep had a bit more character development.

I'll give it a few more eps to see if it grabs. Giancarlo Esposito will keep me that long on his own, but after that...

Thank you for watching the crap so we don't have to. ;-)

I'm going to give Revolution a few more episodes to explain at least some part of the blackout. I really do like most of the characters - especially bearded google guy. I'm hoping he's around to explain why wind can no longer produce electricity if captured correctly.

Unfortunately, I find Charlie to be a low rent Katniss Everdeen or maybe a female Dean (I'm responsible for my little brother!) knowing Kripke is involved. Either way, I'm not sold on her being the main player. Something about her doesn't click for me yet.

You're welcome!

Yes! My mom and I both thought the same about Charlie, and they're not even trying to be subtle about it. Lazy writing. I'm not keen on the actress playing the part. She really needs to work on the expressiveness of her face. I do get tired of watching pretty young people learn to act on TV and in movies. Aren't there enough pretty young people who already can act? I know they're out there!

True they do seem to cast for attractiveness rather then talent these days.

Saw last resort the other night. That show was excellent. It may be the one crazy mystery show i stick with

I've only seen Go On, and it's really a great little show. I hope NBC doesn't eff it up.

This is NBC we're talking about. I think it's a terrible time slot - up against New Girl and Happy Endings (love this show). But I have my fingers crossed.

Haven't seen any of the new shows yet. But the only one that I'm interested in is Elementary. It looks fun. I like the idea of Holmes in America. My mom thinks it would be interesting.

As for the others you mentioned, not really interested in them. I've been watching more public television lately - I just like it better. Gotta love NOVA!

And now you don't have to watch them! lol

I do like the Holmes in America angle too. I think they got this one right. I like that Holmes is very wealthy. It makes his consulting detective thing a bit easier to take - it's a hobby and he doesn't need the money - and I don't wonder how he pays the rent on a huge Manhattan apartment.

Instead of trying to remake a Brit show as an American show (I'm looking at you Life on Mars) they went in a unique direction; yet keeping Holmes essentially the same.

They better explain quickly how they can't even generate electricity using water or steam or wind.

Yes, thank you. This bugs me so much. It would bug me less if guns didn't work either so anything "modern" technology wasn't working but no. Plus, everyone is so clean and still has manufactured clothing? I know it's only been fifteen years but I kinda feel like it's lazy, that they're handwaving a lot of stuff because they're too impressed with themselves and getting to the "mystery".

I think you've pointed out something I didn't even realize was bothering me. Like what happened to all the other housed around their little cul-de-sac. It was obviously at one time part of a suburban neighborhood - did all the other houses magically disappear or did they really go to the trouble to tear them all down.

Also many the roads have reverted to dirt (see said cul-de-sac) but as you pointed out, they still have their clothes.

Yep Lots of questions. I'll give them a few more hours of my time to explain some things before I bail.
