Would You Go With Me?

Katie grabbed the mail from the box and stepped back inside to flip through the letters and junk mail. As she headed back toward the kitchen, she could hear Sam on the phone with Dean.

She paused as her gaze settled on the letter she’d been waiting for the past weeks. It was from the school district in Seacouver. She dropped the rest of the mail on the hall table and ripped open the envelope. She felt joy well up inside her. They wanted her to start in three weeks, at the beginning of the fall term.

Unable to contain her glee, she raced into the kitchen and flung herself at Sam.

He let out a muffled grunt as she impacted his chest. “Sam I have wonderful news!” she crowed.

Confused, Sam spoke quickly into the phone. “Gotta go, Dean.”

He could hear his brother laughing as he snapped the phone shut. “What’s going on?” he asked as he returned her hug.

Grinning up at him she said. “I got the job!”

“What job? What are you talking about?”

She separated herself from him and began to pace. “I know I should have told you, but I wasn’t sure it would work out. Actually, I think Joe might have helped. He seems to have contacts everywhere. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if he pulled a few strings.”

“Katie, what are you talking about?” Sam implored as she continued her pacing.

“Oh, right.” She shook off her musing and continued. “I knew you’d be leaving soon. You couldn’t stay away from the hunt, and your brother calls everyday…”

Sam stopped her pacing with a gentle hand on her shoulder. “Whoa, I wasn’t going anywhere, and I don’t have to keep hunting.”

She smiled at him knowingly. “Sam, don’t be silly. You weren’t going to stay here forever. I know Joe offered you a job with the Watchers, working with Bobby. I know that Dean calls almost daily wondering when you’re coming ‘home’,” she said as she air quoted the final word, “because this is not your home.”

“I turned Joe down. You know that. I thought you were happy with me living here.”

“Which, I don’t think you should have,” she reminded him and sat down at the kitchen table.

Frowning, Sam sat down opposite her. “So you’re not happy.”

“Oh God, Sam. No, I’m deliriously happy.” She reached across the table to hold his hand. “But this is Sarah’s place and…” she trailed off.

Sam nodded his understanding. “And Sarah’s coming back with Connor next week. I figured that might be awkward for you…us.”

“Exactly,” Katie agreed. “I love Sarah like a sister, but I just don’t think the four of us should share a house.”

Sam smiled and played with her hand as he thought aloud. “What do you say we get our own place? I’m sure I could find some kind of job in town.”

“That sounds really nice, but I don’t think you should stay in New York.”

Confusion crossed Sam’s face. “I don’t understand. Where would I go?”

Katie got a wicked gleam in her eye. “How about Seacouver? You could take that job with Bobby, and Dean would be happy to have you back.”

“What? Did Dean say something to you? Because he really needs to mind his own business. I’m not going back to Washington. That is, unless you really want me to go,” he finished quietly

Katie saw Sam’s sadness on his face, and she could see he was confused. Yet, something in her wasn’t ready to explain things. A part of her wanted him to figure it out for himself.

Sam let go of her hand and leaned back in the chair, defeated. “You’re breaking up with me, aren’t you? I kinda figured when the summer was over, you might. I mean, you have to get on with your life, and I’m not exactly a catch. My life is kind of crazy…”

Katie burst out laughing. After all that, he’d come to absolute wrong conclusion. “Wow, Dean is right. Sometimes you are so thick.” She couldn’t torture him any longer. “I meant, the two of us go to Washington together.”

Sam sat up straighter. “But your whole life is here. Your family, your friends.”

She rolled her eyes at him. “That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you. I got a job teaching English at the local high school in Seacouver. I start in three weeks. So what do you say? Want to go to Washington with me?”

Sam sputtered a few incoherent syllables and then nothing.

“Is that a yes? Because I have to let the school in Seacouver know this week if I’m taking the job,” she teased.

Sam stood, circled the table, and knelt down in front of her. “Are you really ready to move across the country for me? To be part of my crazy life?” he asked and then added jokingly, “to deal with my intrusive brother?”

Katie laughed. “As long as we aren’t sharing an apartment with Dean, then yes, I am.”

Standing, Sam pulled her to her feet. He looked into her eyes as he stroked her cheek. “I can’t believe you would do this for me.”

“Oh, Sam, you have no idea what I’d be willing to do for you,” she said and let the suggestiveness of the statement sink into his brain.

Sam cupped her face and kissed her enthusiastically. She wrapped her arms around his waist and flowed into his passion.

Before she could catch her breath, he grabbed her into a fierce embrace and twirled her around the kitchen all the while laughing. “Yes, of course, yes! Let’s go to Washington.”

When he finally put her down, he chastised her. “You little hellion. You didn’t have to torture me with all your plans.”

“But it’s so much more fun that way,” she giggled.

Sam crushed her mouth with another kiss. He broke apart quickly and quipped, “The kissing works better if you would stop giggling.”

“Sorry,” she said and covered her mouth to calm her delight. “Ok. I’m better now.”

Sam kissed her again. He lifted her and backed her up against the wall. She wrapped her legs around his waist and felt herself suspended between the wall and his passion.

She was panting when he broke the kiss. Overcome by the heat of the moment she blurted out, “Let’s get married.”

Sam almost dropped her. “No, you did not just do that.” He groaned, set her down onto her feet, and stepped back.

“Oh. I…” Katie cried. “I’m sorry. Forget I said that. It’s a stupid idea.” She turned away from him and smacked her head lightly against the wall. “Stupid, stupid,” she muttered.

“Katie, stop that.” He pulled her away from the wall. His mouth opened as if he was about to say something more, but then he closed it. His face took on a look of concentration, and she could see he was wrestling with something.

“Sam, what is it?” she asked quietly.

Sam looked frantic. “Just hold on a second. I’ll be right back,” he commanded and turned away from her. “Just one minute, wait there,” he said over his shoulder as he hurried from the room

“Sam, Sam…” She called after him, very confused. “Where are you going?” Katie plopped down into the kitchen chair, completely embarrassed, and waited for him to return.

Five minutes later, Sam reappeared in the kitchen. He was grinning so widely, his dimples were threatening to break free of his face.

“What’s going on, Sam?” she asked cautiously.

Slowly, he knelt down in front of her and produced a little black box. She gasped as he cracked it open. “I know it’s not the perfect moment I was planning, but you kind of beat me to the punch.” He laughed.

“Oh, Sam, I…”

He held up a finger. “I’m doing this my way, if you don’t mind. Please wait until I’ve asked the question.”

Katie nodded solemnly and waited for him to continue. Sam cleared his throat and put on a serious expression as he gazed into her eyes.

“Katie, I never thought I’d find someone who would ever know the real me. Know everything about my messed up life, my crazy family, the world I live in, and still want to be with me. I know that I’ve found that with you. I want to be with you always and forever and I hope...I believe that you feel the same way. I love you.” Sam paused. “Katie Collins, will you marry me?”

By the time Sam had finished his speech, the tears were rolling down Katie’s face. She sniffled and nodded vigorously. “Yes! Yes. Yes, I will marry you, Sam Winchester,” she said and held out her trembling hand.

Laughing, he slipped the ring onto her finger. “I know it’s not that big, but…”

Katie put a finger to his lips “Shush. It’s perfect.” She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him gently. “I love it and I love you.”

He smiled. “You cannot tell Dean that you asked me first. I will never live that down.”

“I don’t know,” she laughed. “I think Dean would enjoy this story. It’s not like he hasn’t been pushing us at each other from the very beginning.”

“My brother had nothing to do with this!” Sam insisted. “You do believe that, don’t you?”

“Of course, baby, but you’re the one who mentioned him, not me,” Katie smirked.

Sam shook his head. “The most romantic moment of my life, and Dean figures out a way to be a part of it,” he muttered.

“It was incredibly romantic.” Katie leaned over to kiss him again. “Now, I’m thinking you better carry me upstairs and make it worth my while to keep silent.”

Sam laughed. “Katie, I’m going to take you upstairs, but I guarantee there is no way you’re staying silent.”

A/N: The story title comes form the Josh Turner song Would You Go With Me?. I have decided that this is Sam and Katie’s song. Here are the lyrics:

Would You Go With Me?

Would you go with me if we rolled down streets of fire
Would you hold on to me tighter as the summer sun got higher
If we roll from town to town and never shut it down

Would you go with me if we were lost in fields of clover
Would we walk even closer until the trip was over
And would it be okay if I didn't know the way

Chorus
If I gave you my hand would you take it
And make me the happiest man in the world
If I told you my heart couldn't beat one more minute without you, girl
Would you accompany me to the edge of the sea
Let me know if you're really a dream
I love you so, so would you go with me

Would you go with me if we rode the clouds together
Could you not look down forever
If you were lighter than a feather
Oh, and if I set you free, would you go with me

Repeat Chorus
