An exercise in futility/ oooh! Gadgetry!

So when I was swimming today I was struck by an enlightening but depressing thought. There is no meaning to life because everything is purely arbitrary. I planned to swim 64 lengths, which is, I believe, a mile. Seems a reasonable goal, doesn't it? That was one of my primary aims for today, and I did it. Yay me. But then I thought why a mile? Or how about you don't think of the world as an empty place waiting to be popualated by you, and think more as yourself waiting to be populated by the world? Experiences are not weighted on their effect on the greater world, more on their effect on you. Having children may mean jack shit to the world, but it'll sure as hell rock your life to its foundations. The world will think nothing of having you see it, but everything you see will have an effect on you.
