I'm embarrassed by Portland.

Photos of Portlands "Peace Rally"

You know, regardless of how we feel about the war or being over there... at least have some heart for the boys and girls over there.

Maybe I'm biased but my little brother means the world to me and I hate to think he sees something like a sign that says "Fuck the troops".

I'm glad I wasnt ( Read more... )

Yeah, I'm not a fan of most the people in the millitary but that doesn't mean that I would go around saying "fuck the troops" or holding a banner that said that. I just don't like it when they bring their agression toward whoever their fighting back with them. But not every millitary guy is like that. Anyways, I read through all of those and it was pretty pathetic. It seemed like everyone was just trying to get their own two sense in. It was more like "me me me" and not "us us us". A GOOD peace rally would be where everyone there agreed on a cause and protested either for or against something more specific than "peace". Whenever I see these things they just feel like sad imitations of the world changing protests that happened durring the vietnam war. You know your protest is fucked when you've got contrasing views such as "bring my dad home" or "donate to support troops and civilians" against "fuck the troops".

Sadly, what happened, is that there was a "Support The Troops" rally and the "Peace Rally" in the same area... POrtland likes to do that... :-/

"Fuck The Troops"?

What the fucking fuck??

If I were there, it certainly would not have
been a peaceful protest. I would have burned
that sign right there.

How fucking pathetic are they?
Damn.

You know it's too bad that sign has to be the first one - because it's the only one that I feel is disrespectful to the troops and is certainly the first thing people are going to attach to to discredit people who don't support the war, no matter that the majority of the people marching DON'T feel that way. There always has to be some asshole at these marches that ruins it for everyone else.

I say, fuck the government who is fucking over the troops by making them fight a horrible war.

These Peace Rallies, as they call them, are usually aggressive. These folks get together to cause trouble with the cops, the other group of "troop support" ralliers, etc.

I dont like how this war was started and how it's continuing, but I'll always support our soldiers. They are over there to PROTECT us because IF THEY DONT, NO ONE ELSE WILL.

One of my favorite lines is:
If you dont support our troops, then by all means stand in front of them.

We are going to be at war regardless of whether or not our soldiers agree... they joined to protect their nation and families. If theyre called up, then they have to go... and are usually proud to do so... we should also be proud of them.

Respectfully, because this is your journal and you have a right to your opinion, I have to say that I absolutely disagree. There was one offensive sign in that link you posted - out of how many? It's not fair to focus on that one sign and say they're all like that ( ... )

;) Youre always entitled to rant here! I love discussions, and I'm by no way trying to change anyones view.

I agree, I am generalizing where I shouldnt. Youre right, saying all Anti War protesters are bad is like saying all soldiers rape the local women.

It's really too bad our media focuses on the negative.

Yeah, I've been to a few early on. I started going to take photos, but I had to stop because seeing numerous images like these hurt so deeply.

You know, I am all for the peace rallies and such, but the "fuck the troops" sign is going overboard.

I DO NOT support this war by any means! I will however support the troops that are there since they HAVE to be there. It's very sad that they can't come home. How many more lives must be lost?

My brother is going over in a couple months, so you and I are in the same shoes.

((hugs darling))

OH.... Melena and I want to know a good weekend in April (where you don't have Jay) to come up and have a girls weekend?

Love ya!

Bleh, I used to support the peace rallies until I noticed that most of them led by this group end in violence!!

I agree with you, I'll support our troops to the end.

Uh, any weekend in April is fine so far. I wont know if/when I'll be seeing Jonah for a couple weeks. THe earlier the better, I guess :)
For example: I dont have Jay this coming weekend...
