In my last post, I was not so much stating my position on the war in Iraq as much as making the point that Jesus would not support it, and the bible seemingly does not do so either. Throughout history Christians have had a very askew and sick vision of what it was Jesus said. That said, I admit that Saddam is no good guy, no friend of peace--- ( Read more... )

The argument I'm hearing from a lot of people on here is that we should have not gone to war with Iraq because some civilians were killed, and that some civilians were happier under Saddam. Those numbers are far far far lower than the millions who are now free and happy to be free. However, this brings up an interesting point: if war is never justifiable if innocent civilians are harmed in the process, then I suppose nobody here believes we should have gone to war with Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan in WWII. In that war a huge number of innocent civilians were killed. Follow the logic I see here, though, the United States was wrong to defeat Hitler and liberate Europe. Or we could say using that logic the Union was wrong to defeat the Confederate South in the Civil War, leading to the freedom of slaves and equality of blacks.

Obviously, we know defeating Hitler in WWII was the right thing to do, as well as winning the Civil War.

Yes yes, an interesting point, and well thought out; but there are several differences. It would be interesting to have seen a survey of the Iraqi people which showed the percentage desiring American interference, unfortunately we will never know. The main difference is, I would guess nearly everyone in Nazi-occupied Europe wanted the Allies to invade, which was not the case with the Iraqis. These people live in turmoil from day to day -- I cannot imagine they feel much safer now, with increased suicide bombings directed at civilian targets, and continuing gunfire -- Not to mention a lack of stable governing with none to come in the foreseeable future. My thoughts on Iraq, and the entire middle east are that it is CHAOS; it is like the Dark Ages with automatic weapons. These are backwards countries with backwards leaders. There is no solution. We never should have created the nation of Israel. Not only do many of these people not like us, they do not like each other. Saudi Arabia, for example, needs much more than "a few ( ... )

I came to apologize to strategory. In a post in his last thread I pointed out the difference between "Though shalt not kill" and "Though shalt not murder". This post evidences that he had no need of my comment after all, and I probably came off condescending. Oh well, my post was so long I doubt anyone will read it in its entirety anyhow.
