Hello my hungry little children. So I have come to my computer to write in this online journal once again.
Well, it is Thursday. And I am over halfway through my spring break. But any break is better than nothing. Let me think of what I have done.
Monday, the Pops and Mops drove my all the way to Charlottesville to check out UVA. It was swell. I bumped into a TJ friend. I tour grouped with him and one of his other friends. They saw many many TJ kids there. Go Figure. I saw one other Madison student. But I didn't see her again after the orientation. Hmm. Anyways. UVA was gorgeous and enchanting. It might have been the nice weather that swayed me, but I thought it was just a quaint place with bubbly people. And the downtown restaurant Bizou was glorious. I highly recommend the butternut squash soup. Delish! I really liked UVA but I doubt I'll make it in. But the least I can do is apply. And that's what I plan to do. My dad likes UVA because it has a fresh sushi bar. And Edgar Allen Poe went there. And he's historically significant.
Then we drove over to Blacksburg and stayed at the best Comfort Inn I've ever come across. Props to Blacksburg Comfort Inn. We ordered Chinese, watched movies, then went to sleep. After waking and other such preparations, we headed over to Virginia Tech for the 9:00 AM tour. It was a bit more breezy and there were a lot less people at the tour, but the orientation was nice and warming. Then we took the tour. Our tour guide wasn't the best, thus making the tour seemingly pointless. I suppose walking around was nice, but I didn't hear a word she said. On the bright side, every dorm has its own sink. Major plus. And they have a four-year winning best campus dining facility in the US. Virginia Tech seemed a little too big and a little too gray for my taste. It wasn't nearly as lovely as I made it to be in my mind. There was a turf research area. That was a little too farmy. The school seems great for engineers and agricultural scientists. But I am not either. Anywho. My friends Laura and John were in my tour group, which made the tour a good bit better. Laura visited a lot of colleges, but I had never heard of them. John went to JMU earlier and he really enjoyed it. At first I wasn't into JMU at all.
So then Mums and Dads drove up to Harrisonburg after we ate lunch at VTech. I got a Salad. I overdressed it with Balsamic Vinaigrette. Bad choice. JMU seemed pretty drab when we parked late. And there were a lot fewer people in the orientation room. The tour guides were all really attractive. We had this sweet girl named Kate. The cutest little thing. She showed us around campus, all the good places of course. It was quite the walk, I'll admit. The campus was pretty centralized I'd say, besides being split up by a highway. I really liked it though. Like really. Surprisingly, I loved the smallness of it. My Mum said it was dullsville three years ago when my brother visited and she said it changed a lot since then. Our tour guide seemed very happy to be at JMU. She was studying to be an art educator. JMU has a good art program. AND it has a brand new recreational center. Quite stunning, if I can say so. 3-story rock climbing wall, use is FREE. Raquetball room, indoor track, basketball courts, swimming pool/sauna, spa, weights, multi-purpose rooms, smoothie bar. What's not to love. I think I'd be pleased attending JMU. My father is partial to their sushi bar as well.
I think I'm going to adjust to whatever school I go to. But for now it goes UVA, JMU, VTech, in order of most enticing to least. In the case of the new order, it was beneficial visiting the colleges. My mum still wants me to visit other colleges, but I think I'm all colleged out this spring break. Maybe another time. But I don't really know any other instate colleges that I'm interested in. I might look at New York, Massachusetts, or North Carolina schools. But I wouldn't know where to start looking. I've come to the conclusion that I like liberal arts schools that are medium sized. I want to go to UVA, but I feel like when I don't get in there's such a great gap going to JMU. It's like expected 4.0 GPA and 1450 SAT to expected 3.4 GPA and 1200 GPA. It doesn't seem like much, but it is to me. We'll see. Maybe I'll find the right school someday. Hopefully not too late though.
I'm a bit paranoid. I need to do some spring cleaning. I need to practice field hockey. I need to start raising money. Peace out and holla.
