01.liverSo, I get monthly blood tests. On my last regularly scheduled test, my ALT levels were a little too high, so the next week, I had another blood test done to see if it had been a fluke. Still too high. So I stopped taking my medication and went to take another ( Read more... )

I'm a dunce when it comes to medical terms, please explain what ALT is. I assume since it's a blood test that it's a blood enzyme or something like that.

Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT)

An alanine aminotransferase (ALT) test measures the amount of this enzyme in the blood. ALT is found mainly in the liver, but also in smaller amounts in the kidneys, heart, muscles, and pancreas. ALT formerly was called serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase (SGPT).

ALT is measured to see if the liver is damaged or diseased. Low levels of ALT are normally found in the blood. However, when the liver is damaged or diseased, it releases ALT into the bloodstream, which makes ALT levels go up. Most increases in ALT levels are caused by liver damage.

The ALT test is often done along with other tests that check for liver damage, including aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and bilirubin. Both ALT and AST levels are reliable tests for liver damage.

Hah, I was right on the enzyme thing. Good to know Biology 101 wasn't a total waste of my time. =)

Just make sure to let people know when you hear back from them, you got me wondering now what it'll mean.

Well, I heard back from them, and my ALT levels are still too high even though I've been off-meds. So now I need to go to a regular doctor and have them check out my liver. =\ WTF! What's wrong with my liver?! I don't even drink alcohol, what kind of toxins are going through it?!

YAY! You got in! So excited for you! Sorry for last week. I got home and passed out until 10pm. x_x Not going to tomorrow's dance class either cause I'm spending all night working on my final project for tomorrow morning. And I got 3 hour of sleep last night working on my poster for today.

Yangpa................... do you realize how many classes you've missed for the dance class? You only need to be there long enough to sign in! It's a party! She told me last week it's okay to show up, sign in, stay for like ten minutes, then leave!

I do, 3. And I don't like parties in general... and there's a big chance I'll pass out again... but I'm willing to stay 10 mins and then leave. Cause I want to show you my final art project which I think you might like...

So you'll come?? YAY! ... Because I really, really, really hate being there without you. =\ Considering you're the reason I'm taking the class!! XD

(I don't like parties, either. Especially dance parties. Hence I'm going, signing in, saying good-bye to Zoolander, and leaving.)

I wanna see! ^o^

About the article: WTF??

Liver: I think I once had elevated ALT levels due to a fatty liver, but I think they went down? I'm getting another blood test sometime in Spetember, so I'll see then.
You don't think you might have a fatty liver? Probably not. Eh...I have no idea what may be wrong with you, so, hope it's nothing too bad once you find out?

Japan: Man! It'd be really fun to have dinner with you in LA, but I don't think my dad would go for it. (I'd still be 17 at the time, I think. Plus, I wouldn't be able to drive just yet, and I don't live in LA, but rather a bit closer to San Diego.)
Still, it would be really fun. If only I were a year older/could drive/have my Dad say yes.

Article: Yeahhhh. Creepy, ne?

Liver: T.T; What causes a fatty liver? I don't know what it could be... I don't put any toxins into me of any sort so I don't know what my liver is reacting to. ToT;

Japan: I have no idea where anything is in California, except that Weeds is up north near Oregon. XD;;; And... you think you'd still be 17? You're not sure? XD;;; Well, it'd be the day before Christmas Eve, so I'm not actually expecting to get to see anyone. ^^;
