Snagged a link to the trailer for Watchmen from dwchang. Having just coincidentally finished re-reading Watchmen for fun yesterday, I'm glad I was able to see the trailer with a fresh memory of the original graphic novel.

-I love that scene where the Owlship (Archimedes) bursts out of the water with The Beginning is The End Is The Beginning playing. It appeals to quite a few things I like.

-I don't like how Silk Spectre is made all sultry femme-fatale, and from the looks of things Nite Owl is gonna be made more "hardcore". Although in Nite Owl's case, I can grudgingly understand how a modern superhero movie may want to avoid having a central character be a pudgy ornithology expert in his mid-40s.

-Ozymandias' redesigned outfit. Oh come ON! On the subject of outfits, I think Nite Owl's new outfit makes him look too much like Batman. I suspect the comic's original kind-of-boxy look may not have worked in real life though.

-Dr. Manhattan looks perfect, although on a part of the trailer, it looks like instead of taking the obvious Ken Doll approach they gave him junk then blurred it out. ??

-If the clip from the riots are any indication, it looks like the tradition of keeping "Who Watches the Watchmen" partially obscured will go on. Woo.

Reghardless of what I do and do not like about the trailer though, it's definitely gonna be a watcher for me. After all, a movie version with changes I dislike doesn't mean I can't ever read the original novel again.

In other movie news, I saw Mamma Mia! with my parents, sister, and two cousins earlier today. It's not something I'd see of my own accord, but I am very glad I did. It's a musical about a young woman who invites three men who could each potentially be her estranged father without telling either of them why they were invited, or telling her mother that she invited her three ex-boyfriends. It was simple and uncomplex, but a lot of fun to watch, and it got me to listen to some Abba songs besides Dancing Queen, which was the only song by them I knew of at all previously.
