I've never drunk coffee - apart from a brief period at University when I thought you'd need a strong black coffee to survive a night of revising. I really can't stand the taste, and even worse the after-taste of coffee.

I do like the occasional (and I really mean occasional: twice a year maybe) cappuccino, but that's about it.

I cannot stand British tea either, it tastes like dishwater! First time I had a sip I spat it right out - blargh. I'm drinking herbal teas instead.

I am weird when it comes to coffee... In Costa Rica you drink coffee. From the time you are a child. With lots of milk, but still coffee. I've never not drank coffee. I think because of this I've never understood not having it, or seeing it as something bad, although I guess for some people it is. I don't drink a lot. I don't "need it" I rarely have more than a cup a day and can easily skip a day or five. But I love it and could never, ever give it up. I also hate instant beyond belief, it is not coffee but an odd chemical brew that should not exist.

Coffee trials huh? You must be a bit bored! I went cold turkey once on the advice of my homeopath, and decided after a few months that I REALLY needed it in my life. Now I average 3 cups a day but except for Company, I deliberately use instant which is mostly chicory.

Most "health benefits" are available from a variety of sources. It seems unnecessary to consume a specific substance which you don't feel entirely good about, because of potential health benefits.

I suspect that less coffee is better than more.

I've got a better way of having that "normal" alertness

What's that?

It's simple: don't drink coffee.
