“Nina-chan?”
She started, not expecting anyone to be behind her while scribbling in her diary. “A-Arika! Don’t do that. Go back to bed.” She unconsciously glanced at the bed, noting that Erstin was still sound asleep. Good. There was no need to have a third party involved. She refocused back on her desk.
But the other was persistent, much like her nickname, Arinko-chan. “What’s wrong, Nina-chan? You don’t look so well.” She tilted her head, twin light brown braids swinging with the motion.
“Nothing’s the matter. Go back to sleep, Arika, there are lessons tomorrow.”
“As should you, Nina-chan.”
She sighed, navy blue hair shielding her face from her roommate. There’s just no stopping her, is there? The stubborn girl who I’ve grown far too fond of...
“I will, Arika, in a few moments.”
“I’m not sleeping until you do.”
“Ari-”
“Because I know once I do, you’ll just stay up and be all gloomy until it’s time to wake up.”
Nina flinched. How long has she noticed this? I made sure I was being as discreet and closed up as possible. But then again, Arika is quite different from everyone else I’ve met so far... She turned around slowly, tired and wary red-orange eyes meeting curious and concerned bright blue that were a bit too close than she expected.
“I guess I’m just a little...nervous.”
“Nervous?”
“...Disappointing Otou-sama, mainly. I guess. I don’t know. It’s not as easy as everyone thinks to be the number one Coral.”
“I’m sure you can do it though, Nina-chan. You’re the best of the best.” Arika beamed at her. For a moment, she was overwhelmed by the confidence Arika had in her. Doesn’t she realize that we might end up fighting each other one day, when we graduate and become an Otome? Why do you have to be so carefree, Arika?
“...Thank you, Arika.”
“It’s nothing. That’s what friends are for, right? Now go to sleep, the number one Coral can’t have bags under her eyes,” she teased as she prepared to climb up the stairs to her top bunk of the bed. “See you in the morning, Nina-chan.”
Nina smiled softly, just a bare twitch of her lips, but it was a smile nonetheless. She’d been hesitant in letting Arika into her life so freely, whatnot with helping her in her classes and entrusting her with secret about Sergay - at this, she blushed slightly. Snuggling under the covers, she clutched at the pocket watch she received from her father. And promised herself that she would be live up to his expectations, and above her own.

Authoress Notes: Yeah, short and pointless. I haven’t been writing long scenes in a while, so I’m rusty on that.
