i need to rant
about my job. no one needs to read this, i am just frustrated and need to bitch. and also i think it'll be funnyish when i can look back and read how fucking annoying my job is!!!
so i work as a hairstylist at a corporately owned salon. however, my salon isn't the point of the store i work in. we are just hidden in the back of a store full of makeup/hair/beauty products. i have worked there since may 2007.
okay so i started there as VERY part time and at first i didnt mind. i wanted more hours and almost 6 months later i finally got more (still not technically "full time"). around march/april this year i became officially "full time" aka eligable for benefits/insurance/etc. i STILL don't have insurance and every time i ask they act like they don't even know when or how i will become insured. they just say "oh it should come in the mail". okay whatever, i haven't really NEEDED insurance.. so no big deal i guess. i actually don't care that much. i just think it's unprofessional for my MANAGERS not to even let me know, or know how i get insurance.
we are a redken affiliated salon. so basically we can only use redken color, shampoo, products etc. that's okay with me, i don't love redken products but whatever. the problem is that they have now reduced our weekly budget (what we use to buy EVERYTHING for the salon) to only 100$. and not only that but for the past 6 months they just happen to 'forget' to send our orders almost every week. so we are already out of all the basic colors almost always. we are also constantly out of shampoo, which costs 25$ per gallon and we need at least 6 gallons of the different shampoos/conditioners. so we can't even afford all the shampoo we need! so our manager decided she would buy fucking tresemme shampoo and fill up the redkens bottles WITH STUPID CHEAP 3.50$ SHIT. i know this probably doesnt seem like a big deal.. but how can i legitimately sell redken products to a client if i am not even using redken?
moving on.. since we have no color including permanant, semi permanant, bleach, developer, plastic caps, foil etc we have to go buy cheap shitty color from this shitty beauty supply down the street and it is SO damaging to peoples hair. (keep in mind this is not redken, so once again we are lying to our clients) instead of damaging peoples hair, we have to tell our clients "sorry we can't take you because we dont have your color in stock". even if they had made their appointment like 8 weeks in advance. this makes us looks unprofessional and stupid. i think it pisses people off a lot. so, our weekly budget is 100$ because they claim we aren't making enough money. well how am i supposed to even do my fucking job and make money if i have to refuse my clients??
sometimes we dont feel like refusing clients so we have to leave work and this other stylist goes on her day off to buy the bare necessities out of our own pockets! and half the time we dont even get paid back for the stuff we bought! i have done this many times.
okay next subject, in the last 6 months we have lost 3 stylists. so now there is only 5 of us left (4 if you dont count my barely ever there manager) left to cover all the hours. we are open every day 10 to 9, and sundays 11 to 6. instead of working the hours we all agreed to, now im stuck working almost every weekend ALL WEEKEND! i never see my dad anymore because im supposed to see him on weekends and now i work friday, saturday, sunday. a few of us have worked a whole week in a row with no thanks from our managers. to add to this, our manager for some reason pretty much refuses to work nights. the ONE DAY a week she is on schedule past 5, she NEVER EVER EVER stays until close. she is supposed to be working a minimum of 45 hours a week, so 5 days a week 9 hour days. i am not kidding, she works like 4 days a week and comes in at 10 and leave at 1 or 2 EVERY DAY!!! how is this fair when the rest of us our busting our asses for this bitch? one time this other stylist jeanette was on schedule from 10 to 5 on a saturday. out of nowhere the salon manager decided she didnt want to close that saturday and put jeanette in the computer from 10 to 9 without even telling or asking jeanette! an 11 hour day for a hairstylist is absolutely ridiculous, im sorry. i fcuking worship people who can actually do that without going nuts. hair stylists are supposed to have laid back working schedules, and i think they are seriously overstepping their boundaries by not even asking us what days we can or can't work.
i feel like i could write for days about tons of little things.
we have this event going on now where every day at certain times we are supposed to demo products. our manager decided to go on vacation (which by the way i worked for her) the weekend the event started, without even telling us what to do for each day. we had NO IDEA and looked like big giant jackasses when people asked about it. we just basically bullshitted everything we said to people. i think thats ridiculous. i dont like lying to people or bullshitting them. so i told people 'sorry my manager left without explaining what to do, if you want to complain please feel free'.

oh yes, and i went on a vacation in june and i am supposed to get paid vacations. guess what, they didn't pay me! this has happened to a few of the girls.
