I want to write a short story by this Friday so it'll be potentially included in my college's literary magazine, but I'm not sure if I can. It's a touchy subject.

What's the subject?

A part of it has to do with the changing relationship with a friend who's tried to commit suicide twice in the past six months, and how --on accident-- almost broke my nose. The working title of it in my head is: "What to do When Attacked by a Shark: A fictionalized non-fiction story that has absolutely nothing to do with sharks." It's a work in progress, as you can see.

Hmm, that does sound like a touchy subject. =/
Also, I love your title!

Not sure if you can because you're afraid of what your friend will do/say/think, or not sure if you can because it might be too upsetting to write?

Upsetting to write. I think I have to fictionalize it more than I'd normally be comfortable with. The Sedaris ratio: 97% non-fiction; 3% fiction. I might have to take mine more 75/25.
