a little to the left: what i was thinking about when i was writing poetry

each and everything has a very specific use and i feel it is one of my jobs is to explore and navigate that use. each use is exclusive thus leaving me lots of room. one does not sit on warm cookies for example, 'sitting' being a very popular function, but in particular for cookies, this action does not serve their function. i find it very ( Read more... )

this basic idea of the one limiting function relegates every other function to absurdity and i love this, because absurdity is much more probable than non-absurdity, making it all the less (or more!) absurd.

I love this post. (Especially that bit.)

sweet i'm glad you like it =)
i find probability fascinating, especially in statistics because it lets you see that it's much more probable statistically to be wrong than right, because, usually, there's only one right number, and an infinite number minus 1 of wrong ones.

a glass bottle and one made out of fabric not really being all that different.

This depends on whether you categorize things based on function or specific characteristics.

Your whole post makes me think about my intro cognitive science class last year, which I loved. :)

i find this specific combination, needed for things to make sense, a precarious balance that we can easily tip off scale if we just think about things in slight variation (a little to the left).

I wonder exactly where this balance is. It really is tantalizing. In my class, we talked about tables...you could say a table has four legs, but if a table is missing one of its legs, is it still a table? What about if you use a chair as a table? Is it then a table? Where is the line? Which comes first, the object or the definition?

I guess I'm not really adding anything to what you've already said, just rambling along the same lines, but I wanted to say I enjoyed this post (and the last one, too).
