Are you actually surprised? Swimming isn't a high profile sport, so why would Americans, or anyone, care? You'll always have your faithful few who are loyal to the unpublicized sports; that's me with track and field. However, you cannot even blame the lack of interest, which might I add is higher than I've expected, on the people. Swimming gets no coverage. People are interested in what's readily available to them, which is the NCAA Tournament right now. What Phelps is doing is impressive, there's no doubt about it, but to say that the lack of notoriety is anything other than expected, is just ignorant.
