Warning signs

I was 15 or 16, I can't remember which, and I needed a job bad. I was walking home from school through the bad part of town (inasmuch as Lewiston has a bad part of town) because I wanted to pick up a few applications down that way, when three kids approached me. There was an older white kid - he looked maybe 11 or 12, and two younger black kids. ( Read more... )

I feel like the defense getting him to plead guilty in hopes of lessoning his sentence would probably be a much better defense for that guy. Here's the thing, I've been stopped by cops when I've been walking down the street both here in Bangor and in Waterville because I've matched the description of someone that just committed a crim. The way I got the cops to not search and arrest me was to not act suspicious and to do what they asked of me.
Hell, one time my brother when walking home from work in Waterville had 3 cop cars surround him because he met the following description: "About 6 feet tall white male with dark hair" They actually put him against the car, frisked him, held him while they radioed it in, and finally after like 10 or 20 minutes they let him go when realizing that it wasn't him. It sounds like that is exactly what the cops did with Serj as well. Only difference is my brother did not have either the gun or cash box from the taxi cab driver that had been murdered and robbed that night.

Yeah, it's really annoying to then have a "racist profiling!" accusation just because he fits a description. What a horrible woman. Maybe her son wouldn't be a murderer (allegedly) if she wasn't such a dumbass.

Also, those comments are like reading from a forum of 12 year olds.

Also what a shitty mother. Poor people like that really give us all a bad name.

That's a sad story. I watched a lot of the kids in my area grow up to be violent thugs because of the neglect of parents and in some cases, even teachers. I believe in personal responsibility, sure, but a lot of these kids just don't have a chance in hell because of their environment.

Also, I'm glad a dog didn't bite your nuts off.

My mom works with kids like these in L-A. She has a lot of stories about kids who turned out bad... and a lot about kids who turned out good.
If you're ever bored (and I know you are because I grew up there too) stop by the APL reference section and talk to her about it.
