There is the petrol in the chain saw. maybe 5-10 litres would cut enough trees for a year. The trees only release the carbon that they have taken in from the atmosphere. The new tree that grows in the space that has just been created will take the carbon back in.

It is a matter of balance - making sure that trees grow to replace the ones that you cut down.
