Jewelry ads by the numbers

A year or so ago, there was an ad campaign running on many local billboards showing a picture of a diamond ring, with the caption "Worth 100,000 'I Love You's". I forget if the ad was for De Beers, or one of the local stores/national jewelry chains, but I thought to myself, "Say, that's some pretty interesting math ( Read more... )

You are in for SUCH a rude awakening if you think those numbers are even close to real.

Basically it breaks down to:
100,000 - "I Love You"s

25,000 - HER: "You could buy that big TV but we don't have the money." YOU: "That's because it's all on your HAND"

5,000 - YOU: "Are you sure you don't want to trade it in for a nice Ruby? They are more rare technically"

1,000 - HER: "It got caught on something and needs cleaned. Again"

750 - HER: "It doesn't fit right today. We need to get it resized"

500 - Scratches on some part of your body from it.

100 - HER: "I just realized how expensive and lucky I am" - Money = Lucky?

1 - HER: (If you are lucky) "Why don't you get something nice for yourself?"

That's the real numbers...
