Karma.

I once gave a woman a number for a taxi after she refused treatment for a leg injury caused by a run-in with some police officers trying to detain her. She asked me to help her outside to meet the cab. A nurse saw us and told us to wait while she got a wheelchair. The woman told me, "They're not gonna get me a wheelchair." The cops had just forced her to out of one when she refused treatment, and she could not walk on her own. I said, "Just wait a bit." I sat down and closed my eyes. When I opened them again, she was staggering out the door, clinging to the wall to support herself. A security guard said, "Do you want a chair?" She said, "I WANT TO GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!" And stumbled outside, crying.

The guards stood around laughing about it afterwards.

I tried to take a nap.

And I've had this pain in my pelvic region ever since. It hasn't killed me yet, but that's the nature of karma, if you believe that kind of shit.

Yes, I know that karma is a Hindu concept and is supposed to go into effect between lifetimes, not within the same lifetime, but yeah, I just use the Western use of the word, which is incorrect, like most Western understandings of anything outside of itself.

Got arrested. Or, took an injured bird to the ER. Pick whichever answer you like best.
