Personality:
Gray is a teenage boy full of determination and devotion. Especially to his guild who are ultimately his friends. He cherished them as if they were his own family, because the members of the guild all have something in common and it is about finding a place to belong. He would not let his friends down no matter what happens and will fight for them if he has to. There will be times that he would stop his friends from doing something they will regret later, for example, stopping Leon from cutting off Erza's poisoned arm. He knew there are other means than sacrificing yourself recklessly. That goes to say that Gray follows his conscience at times and protecting your nakama or your comrade is part of what being a Fairy Tail mage is all about.
He will disobey any orders if he has to in order to achieve a specific goal. An example would be going to find Leon and stop him from reviving Deliora and he did not care if Erza were to kill him right then. This easily proves how determined he was to get rid of his past and get over his teacher's death. He couldn't bear to carry his guilt any longer. This was his way of doing things and in hopes of moving on from his past. If any case when there are things in which has nothing to do with him, Gray is often lost in thoughts and distracted. Maybe, he doesn't have much of intelligent as the average eighteen year old boy. That doesn't mean, he is pathetic and stupid.
However, Gray does have a rather naive and oblivious side of him. It is mostly toward Lluvia whenever she shouts her confessions toward him and it made him confused. Right now, he still does not understand what is behind Lluvia's intentions. That probably goes along the lines of being unaware of romance and such. It's most likely the beginning of how he might seem awkward and okay, stupid.
Of course, he's afraid of another woman named Erza. He knows that will not stand a chance against her and whenever he's bickering about nonsense with Natsu, she will glare at him and it is enough to make the both of them stop. With Natsu, Gray tends to be sarcastic and overconfident. They would occasionally pick fights whenever they can and cause massive destruction. Then again, destruction is normal considered if you're a part of Fairy Tail. They never seem to fall back on their reputation of ruining order.
Also, Gray has a tendency to be unaware of his random stripping. It's a habit of his, back when he was learning how to perform ice magic. Since then, he couldn't stop taking off his clothes unless someone mentions otherwise. Was it mentioned before how stupid he can be? This happens occasionally and thankfully not all the time. That explains the strange looks he gets from other people who don't know him that well.
Overall, Gray isn't timid at all. He is extremely outgoing and friendly. Since he is a member of Fairy Tail, he was taught how to respect his comrades and learn to give other people a second chance. His personality is similar to Natsu, but without the hot fiery energy. That was a lie actually, Gray can be simple-minded and a complete dunce when it comes to competing with Natsu. Calling him weak and showing off can piss off this guy. He would instantly join into the contest to prove himself against his utterly more stupid rival.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths: He's the type that will never give up in a fight. He'll come and save his friends, even if he is severely injured. Perhaps, this is even his weak point as well. Determination is something that describes Gray fully well, because he rather die than giving his comrades up to anyone.
Weaknesses: This may be both a weakness and a strength, but Gray doesn't like to see anyone dear to him get injured. It's something to keep himself moving and what he learned from being in the Fairy Tail guild. He does tend to lose his clothes and can only be seen in his underwear, however, this is comically canon. The reason behind this is his training back with Ur, his teacher.

[the lapras behind him made a sweet sound, before it swam over to nuzzle Gray in the neck]
Okay, okay, you want me to stay with you--what should I call you? You're a lapras, right? That's what my thing calls you. Then, how about Ur? You can be named after my teacher!

“H-Hey, wait!” Gray protested before he had the chance to complain about where he was and what this place was exactly. He couldn’t believe he wasn’t able to get some of his questions answered. All he wanted to know was why he was here and how in all of Earthland did he managed to get here. Even his ice make ability doesn’t work, but the sound of the pokedex startled him.
"Welcome to the world of pokémon, young trainer!" Uh, what? "Are you ready? Your very own pokémon story is about to unfold. You’ll face tough times and challenges. A world of dreams and adventure with pokémon awaits." That wasn’t what he had in mind and to add to the confusion, “What the heck is a Pokémon?” Everything happening all too fast and at the same time, Gray scratched his head as something fell from his pocket and out came a bursting red light. He turned his head to see what it was and looked up instantly when a creature started saying, Hello, you must be my new trainer. Gray wasn’t so sure what was speaking at time and only assumed that it was this creature. It can talk? Like Happy, huh? Gray thought to himself quietly.
There weren’t any creatures like this on Earthland, just regular animals, dragons, and flying cats. He wasn’t quite used to this yet as one can tell. The blue creature tilted its head and made a soft song in response to seeing Gray. It skittered over toward him and observed him carefully.
“What? What is it?” Gray stared back at it with confusion and held up the strange pokedex. He was going to figure out what he was holding, until his thumb landed on a button, “Lapras. This intellectual advanced Pokémon is able to understand human speech. With its mild temperament, Lapras prefers to carry humans on its back, rather than engage in Pokémon battles.” “Well, what do you know?” The mage smiled sheepishly, “This thing is quite helpful-where are you going, Lapras?” Gray called out to the creature as soon as it went into the water nearby, “That works too, I guess.” He followed the creature, “Since you like to carry humans, think we can go somewhere?” Yes, I am able to take you anywhere as long as there is water. Which is fine by him, because Gray as an ice mage can be a water-type pokémon trainer too.
“Gotta call you something. How about Ur? You can be named after my teacher!” He said excitedly and the lapras began to move across the ocean.
