"Do students in other schools spend hours each week sorting out mistakes that various departments at their schools have made?"
Yes. I have 3 seperate rants from various students and/or people trying their damnedest to be students on my friends page. I have 2 friends that are probably not even going to be able to register for classes until over a week into the semester. o_O
Yeah, ditto -- and grad students in particular. I've got three or four people angsting over loans right now. I'm vaguely worried some kind of bomb is going to drop on my head; the administration doesn't seem to know what the profs want me to do finanically, and vice versa. WHEE!
They will probably file your nasty letter in the circular file along with mine :)
I was tempted-- but did not actually follow through-- to CC my nasty letter to the ALA.
FWIW, I had to take unsubsidized loans my final semester because I had already maxed out the total allowable for subsidized loans. And yes, the financial aid people are idiots. Every last one of them. They actually LOST one of my signatory letters during my first semester so my loan money didn't get released to me until JANUARY of the following semester.
Did I ever tell you that when I finally got my program from the graduation and honors convocation ceremonies, the honors convo program had little boobs and penises (penii?) drawn all over it? It was the final indignity in a 2.5-year string of indignities.
For the most part Baruch has been better than my previous school experiences, but I've had my share of annoying administrative instances. Mostly with the loan issue, though I know that is partly because of the Feds. For instance, they don't actually apply your loan to your tuition until 3 weeks after classes start. Even though I had a letter stating that they were giving me twice as much money as I actually requested. Also, your tuition is due about a month and a half before classes actually start, so if I hadn't the fortunate chance of being in the right place at the right time, I would have had to refuse my loan, reapply for a loan for a lesser amount, and then pay for my courses anyway, then hopefully be able to pay myself back with the loans. I know how hard it is for me to go to school, but what about people who are not as financially well to do as I? I can't imagine what asshat designed a system of loans to actually come into play after you needed the money. It seriously would have been easier to just apply for a personal
