Having a hard time concentrating

"The trouble with the emphasis in conservatism on the market," observes a jaded William F. Buckley, "is that it becomes rather boring. You hear it once, you master the idea. The notion of devoting your life to it is horrifying if only because it's so repetitious. It's like sex."Wow, this guy must be having really bad sex ( Read more... )

I don't even understand that quote. The notion of repetitive sex is horrifying or sex is horrifying because it's repetitive? And what's conservatism on the market? I hope he's not bashing environmentalists. If he is, then I hope he's having bad sex.

no no, this has nothing to do with bashing environmentalists. I'm reading it from an article by Corey Robin called "Liberalism at Bay, Conservatism at Play: Fear in the Contemporary Imagination." It's about the fear in citizens and how we need fear in our lives to feel like we're doing something. Without fear we become complacent, bored and lethargic.
I think what he is saying is that sex is horrifying because it's repetitive. In context with the quote I put, it was said earlier that we are disillusioned by the free market because it is not as exciting and fast pace as we thought it would be; rather, it is allows us to be comfortable in what we do, hence the reason why it's boring.
If you look on the UofT library website, you can find the article and read it if you'd like if you want a better understandin on what I'm blabbing about.

Actually that was a really good explanation of the context, I won't be needing said book.

Gotta love essay writing. My essay on artillery is going to be in a day late, cause I started work on it so late, but it's better than killing myself staying up all night just to submit something mediocre.

smart thinkin'!
Alas, my essay that's due tomorrow morning cannot be submitted late. If it's not in during class time, then we get zero. Eek! Thank God it only has to be 1500 words!

Yeah, mine's supposed to be about 2000. I really don't want to submit mine late, but it'll be crap if I rush it tonight. 4% per day, so hopefully I'll get it done for Thursday.
