There's a lot of stuff you can do with these. The first two sets work as background for text icons, or to decorate a certain part, to give some texture or depth to an image or, well, other stuff :P (I'm lacking creativity today, sorry)
Light textures I like to use in blending mode screen or lighten, makes for some cool effects. Like these. It's subtle, but I like it that way. You can always use more than one light texture in one icon, if you want a stronger effect. Like this
