I agree completely. Those people also have ruined what I have felt to be a unified front California is showing as well as a feeling of solidarity. Most of us are affected or know someone who have been affected. Fires burn, we live in California, it's a fact of life. I think anyone with a clue heard/felt the winds last Saturday and would have been more surprised if there had NOT been a fire. We live in a dry area, that was Matt's comment too--that why do people keep building in areas that were never meant to be built in. It's beautiful scenery but maybe this teaches us that it's best to leave it untouched or clear it which opens up a huge amount of debates ( ... )

I'm so sorry for your sister's friends. That would be so hard for me to leave my animals behind, but what a testimony that they gave up so much to help their church members. I'll be praying for them and their home/pets.

So as a historian (or history buff in my case) the most painful thing is knowing history repeats itself and watching it happen around you, right? Do you get the feeling we're already being shaped/forced into that here? It's only 2 years later and I think that they are already trying to mold this into the next Katrina. Just my opinion. Wondered what you thought.

I think that people were quick to make that judgement, and then the media switched the other way and started really overdoing the differences. It *IS* different. Though it seems to have made people involved in Katrina more mad--the rich white folk thing. The only thing discussions like this do is deepen the divide.

Hey if you get this today and think you have a minute at work...can you email me at tiffity at gmail dot com so I can send you a really rough version of my personal statement and get your advice on it...I'd REALLY appreciate it.

I'm so sorry! I'm off on Wednesdays and Thursday was our application deadline so I have been swamped at work. I'm sure Nov 1 was a lot of people's application deadline but if it's not too late you can still send it to me at work. Jessica (dot) Worland (at) csun (dot) edu
