help me with my computer hex

So I use a Macbook circa 2006 that has happily run both safari and firefox until recently. Slowly at first and now more frequently I got/get what my husband calls "The spinning death rainbow" whenever visiting websites that are high-traffic or high-data transfer -- in other words, not just a static sheet of html. This might actually be a Flash issue. I had the same problem until recently, and I tried the following:

- Uninstall Flash and then reinstall the latest version. You can find the uninstaller at http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/installers/8/uninstall_flash_player_osx.dmg
- In Disk Utility, run "Repair Disk Permissions."
- Restart.

Good luck! Some combination of those three things fixed my machine.

Give me a shout before you start trying to call the ISP. I can give you some troubleshooting steps to try before getting those inept "network engineers" on the phone trying to get you to clear your cookies or redirect you back to Apple or Firefox to work with you first. I would do more checking on your macbook and your local network before getting those guys involved ( ... )

I had another friend with weird internet shit going on like you (not as bad but possibly related) so I'm copying and pasting this here...let me know if this helps...

I did the following and it seemed to fix my problem.

Adding the OpenDNS DNS server addresses (208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220) to Network Preferences > Advanced > DNS.

Not sure what the heck this does, but I am able to load web pages about as fast as I was before the problem occurred.

Here is how I did it.

1. Click on or your System Preferences icon from your Dock to open up System Preferences
2. Click on the Network icon to open up the Network window
3. Click on the Advanced button
4. Click on the DNS Tab
5. Add the DNS Server addresses 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 to the DNS list by clicking the + button.
