Y'all, I just got back from seeing The Hunger Games. OMG.
OH. MY. GOD.
That was the best book to movie adaptation I've ever seen. And I read the book just last week, so all the details were still fresh in my mind.
Man, I don't even know where to start talking about it. First off, it was one of the only movie to actually make me cry in the theater, first making me tear up when Katniss volunteers and then everyone gives her the three finger salute. District solidarity, man! And then Rue's death. Oh man, Rue's death. That was such a freaking beautiful moment. And I loved that we were shown District 11's reaction too, that's actually what made the tears really run for me. I had no idea that happened. I guess Katniss finds out in the next book? Aaahhh, I can't wait to read it.
Also, Rue was so completely adorable! I loved her so much, and her interaction with Katniss. And I loved how Jennifer Lawrence portrayed her. Also, damn, can I take a moment to say, girl looks good. She can be my girlfriend any time.
I also loved Cinna and Haymitch! Both of them were pretty much perfectly what I had in my head while reading.
The only quibble, I guess, was that the giant dog things at the end weren't made to look like in the book, where they're the other tributes. I'm assuming it would be one of those things that would be too hard to translate to movie form, but I kind of wish they had, since it was one of the most horrifying and surprising parts of the book for me. I do wonder if it's going to come up later.
Also, I now have opinions about shipping, but I think they might be unpopular. IDK. I wish I could turn back time like three weeks to when the movie first came out so I can celebrate with everyone who saw it then. BRB backreading everyone's reaction posts.
Ugh, I just want to see the whole thing like a billion more times now.
