AHhhhshdjfhjds this is the best. I love the 'voice' you give the characters, it's spot on. What I really, really like is your 'setting'- it's not "in a hotel with green walls" , it's not a physical description, but the scene is painted by how the characters feel. It gives it way more depth. Emotional scenery. Wow, I really hope that makes sense when you read it or I read it again sober.

"You work with me because I can do this sort of thing," Arthur says vaguely and dismissively. YES THIS. Fic sav'd so hard. You are awesome.

Thank you! I don't like bogging people down in physical description, you know? And - now this is really my cinema geek coming out - Steve McQueen shot to stardom (he was known after Wanted: Dead or Alive, but not quite renowned) after the Magnificent Seven, because he called attention to himself on screen though small movements to communicate more emotion even when silent, and not letting the scenery show him up. Or Yul Brynner, in this case.

Emotional scenery is such a beautiful way to put it! I like characters to do want they feel, or communicate to the audience with actions and feelings more than scenery or explanations I have to make out of their POV. That's why I write in third person limited POV, not omniscient, because I feel like it gets the audience closer to the character.

adlkfajdlfkj I love this. I love how it all builds to that last little section, when Arthur's at Cobb's house. And I almost feel a little sorry for him, since he's so used to weapons that he had to at least take a knife.
