LJ Annoyance

Just recently, I have noticed an annoying feature on LJ that I remember seeing some time back: when your mouse hovers over certain external links, something "thoughtfully" pre-fetches that page for you, and displays it in a popup directly under your mouse (which makes certain things like "right-click/open in new window" annoyingly difficult). Thank you! Yes, that was the page I couldn't find.

That setting is turned OFF (as it has been since I turned it off a year ago). unfortunately, I'm STILL getting the previews. Is it possible that when I read somebody else's journal, their setting for that option overrides mine? I just tried enabling it, and disabling it again, but it still seems to have no effect.

I can't remember if I've seen it happening on my Friends page - but if I click on a friend's entry to view or comment on it, that's when I see this behavior (but only sometimes).

In this case, that setting is almost useless.
(I also imagine it's hell on dialup users).

More annoying that that:

On Lostpedia, some of the off-site links are double-underlined and green (such as the word "adoption" on the page for "Cabin_ Fever"), and when you scroll over the word it opens up a bubble with an ad in it.

We're closer than we think to dreaming about Light Speed Briefs®.

A lot of video games these days are having product placement in-game - for example, if you go past a billboard in a city, that billboard will show real-life product ads. Anything to make a buck. Oh well...
