This is a column I wrote in last week's paper- my first ever for the Advertiser. I was nervous, but it seems like it's pretty well received so far (we'll see what the Board members have to say at their next meeting.
It feels good to write opinion again.

Village Board Needs to Do Its Homework )

Opinion writing about politics can be a hoot:
• A colleague of mine in Salamanca once wrote a column about how the Planning Board was planning to make plans for a meeting at which the board planned to discuss plans for plans.
• I once wrote about how, at a Fire Commission meeting, one of the members spoke to me "with all the charm of a moray eel." He threatened to sue but didn't. He worked at a furniture factory, and workers there were making little wooden eels and putting them on his desk when he wasn't around.
You've gotta poke 'em all with a sharp stick every now and then, just to let 'em know you're paying attention.
