Holy CRAP! I just got caught up on how this shit all happened through your posts, and let me say that I have mixed feelings about it. I'm proud of you for sticking it out and cutting your teeth and learning to make the system work for you over there...but I'm also in total shock that you're still there. Me, I'd give the city a big middle finger and never look back, probably right about the time everyone who was supposed to know what the hell was going on at the impound didn't. I have no patience for disorganized bullshit like that, I'd have probably been near homicidal with frustration at that point. I guess that separates the men from the boys. But DAMN...thanks for keeping us updated about it, and I really love all the detail you put into the explaining the experience. I'm glad to hear that you've got your car back, at least, and I want to hear all about how the hearing goes. With any luck you'll be able to stick it to them and at least break even. Sometimes the shitty stuff works out in your favor, every once in a while... ( ... )

Oh, believe you me, Jeff, that moving from DC was a thought that immediately came to mind when this whole thing started. As I sat waiting for the cop to show up to my house the night I reported it missing, a singular thought kept going through my mind: I'm so done with this fucking city. Now that the glamor and newness have worn off, I can see what this city really is. I also hear feed back from people who have been out here for many years, and most of them express interest in moving far away and never looking back. Moving out here was always a temporary situation. I was always open to the idea of staying out here in the right and perfect opportunities came along. But my intent was always to move back to Chicago (preferably downtown Chicago). And trust me, this incident has sure made that thought come up frequently ( ... )
